A Western Washington woman recently put up a Halloween display that included a hanging dummy. Neighbors complain it's offensive, but Kirkland Police say there's nothing they can do, because the woman isn't breaking any laws. Do you think Halloween displays like that are offensive? 15 CommentsLeave a comment |
Oh wow Halloween has been Halloween for years. Just because some people goes all out for it someone has to scream mommy because of the decorations theyre using. Dont you have a life get on with it otherwise get help and quit bickerin. Its a free country last i had checked and we can put up whatever we want. You dont like go where they have laws against this and leave us alone
It's not real! It's pretend! People are putting their imagination to work and sharing the fun with you. It's not ofensive or a threat to anyone. Enjoy their efforts and chill out. Life is a lot better if you can enjoy it with others instead of finding fault with everything. Buy some candy. Have a Happy Halloween.
Halloween is a time for tricks, treats, haunted houses, and yes, scary displays. It's all in good fun, just like eating a turkey is the fun part of Thanksgiving. Enjoy the fun!
Got a big laugh out of this story, I cant believe how some people can be so thined skin especially about a holiday like Halloween,,, Would love to see what those neighbors would say if they saw my place,, I do a huge haunted house that covers my drive way and front yard ever year and is free to those who want to view it...
Get a life. It is a Halloween decoration. When I was younger my parents hung a dummy in our tree as a decoration. Not to mention the year my husband and daughter hung one in our tree as a decoration. It seems to me someone doesn't like Halloween and is using this as an excuse to make it a miserable holiday for those who enjoy it. If you don't like the decorations, don't look.
We live in Kirkland also and every year my husband decorates similarly for Halloween. Our Kids are grown and on there own now, (but he still does it.) Parents even bring there kids by to trick or treat from others areas. It is great to see the kids be so excited and noisy. It's Halloween!! There Kids. I think it is a part of what helps us be neighbors and nighborhoods. I hope it will continue to be enjoyed in the spirit that we enjoyed when we were kids. To the person who complained I would say Happy Halloween!
People can do as they please, but these images invoke painful memories for people who have been threatened with similar fates or have seen them in reality.
I totally agree, it is offensive and deserves the resources of every police and new agency to bring it down. It's just a good thing there is nothing else wrong in our society which would take our attention away from this travesty.
OK, this shows how overboard people in this country have got with this offensive thing up until a few years ago this would have never happened we as a country need to relax and grow up and quite hollering foul all the time its just stupid and we over rate it all by saying that it is new's worthy
With all the major issues in the world (war, unemployment, illness), I can't believe people don't have more to be concerned about than Halloween decorations, ghoulish or not! I think it's great that this family enjoys the season.
Satan is alive and well on the planet earth. Twice a year he makes himself most known. First at Halloween (which is not a holiday) when people participate in all aspects of the dark side of death, dying and the occult with great relish and desire. Second is Christmas (which is a holiday) where all aspects of Christian tradition is being placed on the ash heap of political correctness. Secular Humanism reigns supreme. But those of us who have read the last book through to the last chapter, know how this will all end, and there is great hope.
You can shelter and coddle your children all you want, however, I'm certainly not going to help you. I'm not going to ruin my fun, or my perfectly legal rights by accomodating you, even when you bother the police to make your moral case. So shelter your children, keep them at home, close the blinds and disconnect the TV and RADIO and never take your kids out and tell them all the moral fairytales you want. It really doesn't do anything but make them pregnant sooner and self centered with no consideration of others.
i think its offensive that store put up xmase displays at halloween.
It's not as offensive as Kanye West...
I do find some halloween decorations offensive. On a road I drive on daily, someone put up some kind of a monster holding a baby outfit as if it had just consumed the child's head. Its a well-lit display that can be seen clearly at night. It made me want to throw up. A family friend of mine recently lost a 5 month old baby to medical causes. The family is devasted. This is not something to celebrate.
Are we so sheltered from violence that we have to re-enact it as a holiday here in United States?
murder, canabalism, child-crime etc. is a lot more rampant and real in some places in the world (look at recent history in the last couple of years of the LRA in Uganda for example), I wonder what they think of a society like ours where we set aside a day to celebrate things like this? And decorate our yards with sad and devestating scenes for fun?
It isn't funny, "in holiday spirits" or "fun scary!"
Its disgusting, repulsive and gross. Putting decorations like that in your yard demonstrates how uneducated, close-minded, self-centered and insensitive to people who's walks of life were not a bowl of cherries like your own.
Go ahead and celebrate! I'm not against it, but please have some discretion when putting up decorations, and put up tasteful decorations that anyone can enjoy and not only a select few. Another neighbor of mine put up a pirate skeleton that jumps out of a treasure box, my kids love it!
