I should be eligible, though often overlooked, for the Nobel Prize! My intentions are the best! Many times however, they do not turn out that way. Perhaps the Nobel Prize Committee is filled with psychics and are then able to make a determination of Obama's ability to fulfill the commitment worthy of such an honor. How can a decision of this magnitude be made in that short amount of time. It diminishes the integrity of the entire process and of those that follow.

No, I do not think President Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. The man is a community organizer, do-nothing former Senator, and now a do-nothing (but talk endlessly) President of the United States. He looks good on the world stage and it is understandable that those liberals in Norway who comprise the Nobel Prize Committee would want to advance President Obama's liberal world agenda, including subjugating the United States' sovereignty to the United Nations. In my view, President Obama's performance in office deserves no more than one term. I can only hope the damage he inflicts on our government and military will be short-lived and reversed by the next President, whether Democrat or Republican.

While I think Obama has done the best in a bad situation I do not think he should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
1) Because I agree that the prize should uplift those who have shown dedication in the face of obscurity.
2) He may be doing a good job but thats just it these accomplishments are simply part of the job he was elected to do. No one gets a prize when on the rare occassion they get your McDonalds order right.

What a crock. Here we have the first black man to become presdient of the United States, a tremendous hurdle and an incredibly difficult task in this nation with so many deeply racist people, and it is denigrated as "simply because of his race?" If it's so dang easy for black person to become president, why did it take 220 years?
For the many here who appear to be ignorant of, well, EVERYTHING about Nobel prizes, sometimes the Nobel committee, in awarding the Peace prize, does so to endorse events that are occurring and to provide additional momentum for them to continue. For example, the prizes given to Lech Walesa of the Polish Solidarity movement and to Mikhail Gorbachev and his prerestroika and glasnost.
Barack Obama has convinced Russia to join with us to significantly reduce our countries' nuclear arsenals, Russia has agreed to allow overflights of U.S. equipment to Afghanistan, and it looks very likely that they will soon be party to an agreement under the terms of which they will treat Iran's existing uranium stocks to turn them into nuclear reactor fuel (making it unnecessary for Iran to continue enriching uranium). We should know the answer to the latter by the end of this month.
If that's all he achieved, it would be significant and deserving. However, it is likely that he will also achieve goals such as ratification of the START (Strategic Arms reduction Treaty) and Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, strengthen the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) Program to secure Russian nuclear materials against diversion and misuse...and more, and more. You get the idea.

It seems like just yesterday Republicans were telling us how Chicago losing the Olympics meant that the world and Europe in paricular had rejected Obama. Now that he has won the Nobel Peace Prize they are forced to contend that the world's most prestigious award is meaningless, in order to yet again avoid reality: that the world approves of Obama (and the US again, finally) very much.
And BTW, Obama did not kill Eurpoean missile defense--he's scaling it back and making it mobile instead using fixed installations. But it certainly makes sense to offer de-escalation of this worthless idea in return for all of the cooperation we're now geting from Russia.

Has anyone considered just why he was given this prize? It is not for what he has done, but what it is to keep him from doing. Every time during the rest of his term as president, when a world crisis comes up, it will be thrown in his face that he is the "Nobel Peace" president. As I see it, this has all but emasculated his position as world power head. Will it be that every two bit dictator will try to see just how far they can push him? Or could it be that this was not so much an attaboy, Big "O" as it was a screw you Bush? And for Daddy Love comment, this has nothing to do with the Olympics selection. The best city was selected, and it wasn't the cesspool on Lake Michigan.
Saera said:
If hopes and good intentions are all it takes to win the nobel peace prize, there's at least a third of this country that deserves one too! the prize should have gone to someone who really worked for it, steadily, over time, someone who's proven themselves and is doing all they can to make a difference, and someone who with the cash that comes with the prize can make an even bigger difference.
Daddy Love said:
Here's just a thought...
The guy who won the Peace prize is fighting two wars, freed a hostage on the high seas (by killing his captors), expanded his predecessor's drone attacks into Pakistan, has killed a high-level Al Qaeda leader, imprisoned several others, and broken up a number of terrorist plots, just since he came into office. I don't think that this Peace Prize will convince anyone that they can "push him" given his track record.
Oh, and a good city was selected for the Olympics all right, although Chicago is a world-class city that makes Seattle look like Crawford TX. But my comment was, of course, about the undeniable chorus from the Right insisting that the Olymic selection "meant" that the world has rejected Obama, and that the pathetic haters in here and elsewhere HAVE to ignore the world endorsement inherent in this award. Which is hilarious.

Norwegian Nobel Committee’s Thorbjorn Jgland:
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.
Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.
Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.
For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world’s leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama’s appeal that “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges.”

Wow. That's about all I can say after reading all of these posts. To answer the ORIGINAL question, No. I do not feel that Obama deserves to win the Nobel Peace Prize. I liked what a poster said about getting the McDonald's order right. This president has not done anything CONCRETE, except continue and EXPAND our country's predilection with crippling debt (this was NOT all Bush's doing, although some of it was under his watch). Obama has talked a good game, but the 12 days from his inauguration to when the nomination was placed is just NOT enough time to judge whether this man will be able to follow through with his lofty goals (some of which, I agree are worthwhile). There were 205 other nominations, most of which I'm sure were better qualified for this prize. Also most of which made "change" happen in measurable ways - they didn't just talk the talk, they walked the walk. Will Obama take his $1.4 Million award and deposit it towards our nation's debt? I know it would hardly be a drop in the bucket, but it would be a symbolic gesture. Also, to those who continue to bash our past President for all of our current situations - give me a break! I don't respect Obama and his administration's Bush bashing on the world stage, and I think it's immature for small-minded Americans to continue to do so. Get over it!

Whos gonna pay for them it will be our children and grandchildren. I total disagree that his wifes mother lives in the White House. What about those Illegal Immigrants who hang out in front of Home Depot and Lowes working under that table. DID I MENTION THERE HERE ILLEGALLY. This is great. My first reaction was that it was premature. But after thinking about it I can completely agree. It took a lot of courage to open a dialog with Iran, to unilaterally kill the European missle defense system, and to tone down the anti-islamic rhetoric.
what the hell has he done to get the award.
what's next a gold star from russia
employee of the month
give me a break next thing you know they will rename the country after him
It seems like just yesterday Republicans were telling us how Chicago losing the Olympics meant that the world and Europe in paricular had rejected Obama.
FWIW, this president has accolades tossed his way, not shoes.

Aw jeez....now you might as well stick it in a Cracker Jacks Box ! You've made it worthless. Does anyone else see the irony of the Peace Prize being given to someone who has done nothing to earn it...AT THE SAME TIME THEY'RE MAKING A CHIA PET OUT OF HIM ???
Another phony "token" attempt to make the oblibious of the nation feel good.
CHECK PLEASE !!!!
NO,What has he did to deserve it, is it because hes Americas first black President?I think that bicyclist should have to be registered and a license plate and a head light and tail light. Ive seen too many bike riders running red lights, cutting across all lanes in all directions, riding on and off curbs and holding up traffic. They ride with no saftey and awarness that they are sharing the road with cars and motorcycles. They hardly ever use hand signals when turning. When you buy a bike and want to ride you should have to take a course of road awarness at the D.M.V and pass.To many numb nuts get on the road and ride putting not just their life in jepardy but those in cars, buses and motorcycles. Ive never seen a Seattle Traffic Cop pull over a bike rider and issue a ticket "NEVER".When you buy a car or any motor vehical you pay a tax to use the road and so should bicycle riders. As far as the Nobel Peace prize HELL NO. Just wait and see the state of the country in the future that Obama has set in motion with all the stimulous packages and bailouts. Whos gonna pay for them it will be our children and grandchildren. I total disagree that his wifes mother lives in the White House. I feel this is all a political move because he`s the first black President. I thought that if i remember that Barrack Obama said he would not send anymore troops "OOPPPPS" come on people remeber. Health Care do you realize that all the Immigrants that come over and get on Welfare get E.B.T which is a food card and medical, and housing. The medical they get for FREE is better than what you have if you even have any health care. What about those Illegal Immigrants who hang out in front of Home Depot and Lowes working under that table. DID I MENTION THERE HERE ILLEGALLY. What about the Sanctuary Cities all over America that they can go to with out the fear of being deported. What about the Seattle School District wanting to lower the passing grade for school kids from a c- to a d-, WHATS UP WITH THAT? I can go on and on with whats going on wrong here in Seattle. NO ON THE TUNNEL. Remeber we elect our politicans. I guess we the people of Seattle just open our wallets and give and give. Its time to make a MAJOR CHANGE.
Bill Board You forgot to mention curbing the use of drugs and alcahol, which by your rambling, I am sure you would not support.
