Washington's first execution since 2001 could happen Friday.

Do you believe lethal injection constitutes cruel and unusual punishment?

how about not cruel and unusual enough? the punishment should fit the crime, eye for an eye.

No way, I think the "cruel and unusual punishment" has no bearing on the death penalty, simply because how can there be a "humane" way to end someones life?

Rick Velasco said:

I agree with capital punishment (Death Penalty)laws. Guilty beyond reasonable doubt, the law must be carried out as perscribed. No more delays, no more burden to the tax payer, and most importantly closure for the family.

Jake said:

an eye for an eye you kill you get killed the punishment should fit the crime. Whats cruel and unusual is what got you the death sentence.

The only way it would be bad is if they did not use a swab to clean the skin before injecting. We would not want to get an infection.

If a 3 year old child hits someone else, those that are for the death penalty will hit the 3 year old and go 'We don't hit!'

I believe this is the simplest way to explain the hypocracy of the death penalty.

I am against the death penalty for the simple fact that you cannot guarentee me that 100% of those that will die are guilty, and that everyone that murders and are 100% guarenteed to have killed someone are given the death penalty.

Most of the time those that deserve to die most (green river killer, etc) end up not getting the penalty because they negotiate: "ill show you where I put the bodies if you dont kill me" however, that black man that killed the store owner in a paniced robbery which was the main motive will surely die.

Yet we choose to dwell on how much pain it causes. I believe it causes everyone pain, whether in the pocketbook for expensing someone elses 'eye for an eye' or the victims family that has to watch the final curtain draw.

Not at all as long as its beyond a reasonable doubt. Look at how these creeps kill their victims - surely the victims suffered more than sombody who just gets a shot and goes to sleep. How can that compare to rape and torture? If more death penalties happened - it seems to me it would at least make some of these sick puppies think twice.

I had a good friend murdered by Ted Bundy.
You need to understand the mindset of these animals, they do not deserve understanding;
They deserve death and lethal injection does not fit the the founding fathers' intention of "cruel and unusual".
Life without parole is cruel and unusual punishment for everyone involved because these a$$holes don't have anything to lose and operate that way.

There is no such thing as cruel and unusual punishment for someone who has committed such a heinous crime as this one. He deserves to die and if I had my way, he would be subjected to public humiliation in “stocks” before his death for his crimes against another human being!

Thanks for the opportunity to comment...

I believe that the death penalty itself is cruel and unusual punishment. Dispite the horrific acts committed by those who murder, we perpetuate a cycle of violence when we punish with another form of murder. We send a message of violence by using capital punishment, while hoping to deter acts of violence.

For the families of victims, execution might be seen as a way to fulfill an understandable desire for revenge, rather than being seen as serving justice. It is well known that families rarely feel an execution makes their loss or pain any more bearable.

I don't believe we should be a society that justifies revenge. I feel that life in prison is the appropriate punishment. It demands that a person who takes another's life, exchange any hope of freedom for taking that life. It demands that a violent murderer must think each and every day of what they did to deserve the punishment of being isolated from society. Nothing will bring a murder victim back...not even the death by execution of the murderer.

revenge? that works for me....i say string those bastards up!! i say being too civilized causes prison over crowding. can somebody explain to me why revenge is wrong? back in the old days the indians had an eye for an eye. make em dig thier own hole, shoot em then send the bill to the family. what i want to know is why dont we have the death penalty for child molesters? i think one of the victems family should have the option to push the button or pull the trigger.

I think that the punishment should fit the crime. If you take a life then your life should be taken. After all, one of God commandments is, "Thou Shalt Not Kill."

i feel that if the state had kept this idiot locked up after commiting his first offense the poor lady he killed baxk in 1991 might still be alive today,i feel there should be a vote put to use and into election keeping all dangverous level 3 predators behind bars even after theyve served their time. after all their victims never were given a chance to decide what they want why should the offenders thanks darrell

I think if they kill or molest children, they should be done the same way that they did. Say you tortured someone then you should be tortured. Eye for an eye

cjcampbell said:

I think letting him live would be cruel and unusual punishment. It is not a matter of revenge or of bringing the victim back. It is both just and merciful to execute murderers.

joe_stfu said:

cyrix, your comparison to a 3 year old made no sense. a 3 year old cannot tell the difference between right and wrong like these 'adults' can. and if you apply to the rule how you say it, are we supposed to go outside and poop in the doghouse if the dog poops in your home.

and you think it causes the victims family more pain to watch them be put to death than it does for them to relax in prison and give them the attention they want? AND you think its more expensive to put them to death than to feed and shelter them for 40+ years? shut up, youre an idiot. the only people who dont think the punishment should fit the crime are those who do the crimes themselves.

My father was murdered in 1988 and the murderer is walking the street as we speak because he has already done his time. I would much rather he have been executed. And I could care less how people who murder are executed! They didn't care how their victims died! And why should we pay to house them and feed them until thet get out and kill another person.
As for the comparison for the 3 year old... you have got to be kidding! We are not talking about a child who hasn't learned right from wrong!
If you don't agree with the death penalty then you probably haven't had some one close to you murdered.

cjcampbell said:

A murderer is not a three year old. These guys will rape your three year old and then eat him for lunch. They are not going to learn "better manners." It is not a matter of teaching them "not to hit." These people need to be executed and put out of whatever hellish misery they are living in that causes them to do such a thing. They also need to be executed so that people will know that there is justice in the world and that these monsters will never walk the streets again.

Jobert said:

The Washington death penalty has not been used since 1991, so why have one? If anyone deserved to be put to death, this guy does. He showed no mercy when he committed his crime and now 19 years later he is still breathing. I hope that the low life criminals in prison will one day give this guy what he rightfully deserves…DEATH!!

Jobert said:

It is people like you that let these type of mindless criminals claim they have mental problems so they can hopefully live in prison until they are finally set free. You believe that the death penalty itself is cruel and unusual punishment. Well, I believe you are part of the problem in America with people not wanting to take responsibility or accountability for their actions. Yes, despite the horrific acts committed by those who murder, we do perpetuate a cycle of violence when we punish with another form of murder….like the bible says, an eye for an eye.

Life in prison does not mean life anymore; we have seen that repeatedly. I hope that this guy will suffer a violent death like he committed on a young women who was just starting her life.

Chris Zeller said:

He Tortured... Raped... and Murdered this poor girl. I'm sure she pleaded for her life... He Said too bad.

You cant treat someone like this cruelly enough. It's too bad those on the Supreme court bench cant be treated the way he treated her. Maybe they would think differently if it happened to one of their children.

John said:

These was a last minute plead for justice. Why didn't he apologize to the victim family before his execution? Our justice system really sucks because the victim and their families always suffered the most. If he was a person of color or any other ethnicity, there will be no stay of execution.

jack smith said:

On the other hand , Gandhi said. "An eye of an eye leaves everyone blind." With War, Torture and the Death Penalty our government builds a cycle of violence that you may observe in the headlines. The Green River Killer admitted 49 murders and he will spend a lifetime in a small cell with limited Human contact. One murder or 49 the punishment should be the sam.
I say, end the wars, end the torture and end the death penalty.

For the three folks who want to take the high road and eliminate the death penalty, I bet you would sing a different tune if you were laying in a truck waiting to be raped and murdered by Cal Brown. Better yet, imagine it's your daughter or your son that SOB got his hands on and placed in a dark truck. Them laying there not knowing their fate. Scared to death. I imagine you wouldn't have any problem with a police officer shooting the guy right before he gutted them. I think you've got a lot of nerve lecturing us who believe that those who've done such haneous crimes deserve nothing less than the death penalty. The brutal rape, torture, and murder of Holly requires that the evil monster who did that to her should die. Save your misguided sympathy for her family and the family she might of had if she had lived. She will never get to marry, her dad will never get to hand her off to her future husband, she will never get to have a lasting relationship, she will never have children, and she will never grow old. We see value in her life, we see none in the life of the monster who so casually snuffed her out. You may be so cold blooded to value her life so little, but we aren't. I think you are very mistaken to believe we who call for the death penalty don't respect life, it's because we respect life that we call for the death penalty.

OK, then use a guillotine, your head is chopped off in 1 second, no pain, no suffering. Or what a bout a shotgun blast to the head, again, quick, no pain, and no suffering. We voted in the Death Penalty for scum like this, he and all others like him must be removed from planed Earth post haste!

IM FOR THE DEATH PENALTY. I FEEL THAT IF YOUR FOUND GUILTY AND SENTECNED TO DEATH THEN YOU SHOULD BE MARCH DOWN RIGHT THEN AND THERE AND BE PUT TO DEATH. I THINK THAT LETHAL INJECTION IS THE EASY WAY OUT. A PERSON WHO IS SENTENCED TO DEATH SHOULD SUFFER THE MOST PAINFUL AND CRUELIEST WAY POSSIBLE OR ONE SHOULD BE PUT IN A MEDICAL INDUCED COMMA AND YOUR ORGANS BE DONATED. IM AGAINST PUTTING ON DEATH ROW FOR YEARS AT THE EXPENSE OF TAX PAYERS.

How is going to sleep first before the lethal injection is crewler than a noose around the neck, falling then snapping the neck?

Death Penalty!
Amagine you lose someone you love, this someone is so important to you that you are willing to trade your life for theirs... THINK!

One day you turn around and your little daughter is gone, you wake up and your son is not home... The feeling inside your stomach is rushing, you are calling everyone, all their friends, calling the neighbors, and hoping your son/daughter are out there save.

What if you don't hear from them again...

Police called you and said they found the body of your son or your daughters..How are you feeling at the moment..confused?..thinking what right does another have to take your son or daughters' life... You start saying to yourself, " its just a dream".. you get in a denial stage.. all your hard work, all your time and effort, all your love.. now shattered..

I believe life for life.. you take someone's life.. capital punishment should grant you the death penalty.. you have no rights to invade or even go near this individual you killed. they have every rights to be on this earth as much as you do until you KILLED them... why waste our taxes putting you in jail eating your life away when the one you murdered is buried and their love one's is suffering..

Life in prison and wasting society money are the rapist.. anything to do with killing should be kill themself.. If you don't believe harsh punishment.. wait.. your son/ daughter might be next... fight for your right!!

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU LAY YOUR HAND ON SOMEONE.. IT COULD BE YOUR SON OR YOUR DAUGHTERS.. THE EARTH SPIN IN A CIRCLE.. WHAT GOES AROUND COME AROUND!
