The City Parks Department of Seattle is proposing a ban to make nudity at public parks and beaches illegal.
Do you think the city of Seattle should ban nudity at public places like parks and beaches?

I say no to the ban, but why have the ban when Seattle and Washington laws say no to nudity.
Why does the park department want to have redundent laws. Just to waste money I would guess.

No. They shouldn't make nude events illegal. Let them have the nude events. After all it is their body and if they are comfortable showing it to people let them. It's their body to show off, not the law's.

Shame on the parks people! They didn't want to offend the nudists, so they offended us instead. If you want to be nude, go right ahead - in your own home, in your own nudist colonies, but stay the heck out of the fountain, etc. In fact, go get your own danged fountain! I don't want to look at your bare bodies - they ain't pretty!

Of course the City should ban nudity in public places! What are the city fathers thinking entertaining the alternative?
Have they stopped to think about the number of children in our sociey who have been molested, and that such displays are likely to traumatize them?
I've always thought of our fair city as "child-friendly", but our children's rights to enjoy the city without angst are being placed behind the rights of a minority group of exhibitionists here.
It's not too much to ask these folks to disrobe in the privacy of their homes.

OF COURSE public nudity should be banned. Isn't that no brainer? And, if as mentioned above public nudity is already illegal, why are nude events allowed? I don't understand the thinking that it's okay "it's their body let them show it" as a reason to allow it. Being nude in the privacy of your home is great and that's where it should be kept. Some things should NOT be shared. I have no problem with the nude body but it just isn't for display in public for all to see. What's next? public sex? I guess I can't for the life of me figure out how we have come to the point that this would even be debatable. You would to be nude, that's great but STAY HOME!

Being topless isnt illegal in this state dear...
Showing off the genitalia is.

Perhaps at the next "nude event," those who are offended can start a massive lawsuit against the sponsors of said event.
kay said:
Why would anyone start a lawsuit against the sponsors of a nude event? We should be going to the City to be sure the laws reflect a ban on public nudity at the beaches, at the parks and any other public place. Offended or not offended by nudity isn't the point; there are absolutes in life and there are absolute rights and there are absolutes wrongs. Being nude is a choice and you don't have to find nudity offensive to know it will never be right to be nude in public and the laws should not allow it.

Seems like a useless law to me. It is Seattle. I would not call it a nice warm climate. They really don't have much public park nudity. Chances are this is some way to actually get rid of the poor homeless residents. And to the above commenter about children being abuse in parks. I am pretty sure they aren't being abused by Nudists or person participating in "nude" protest etc. Most molesters are absolutely embarrassed about their self image. Pick up a book and try to learn a thing once in awhile.

Why don't you consider the majority rights for once and just keep it to yourself!!!

If they want to run around naked they lose their privacy rights. Then the photogs can take pictures and will not need relaese documents. The photogs can sell the photos without any violations of their free rights...cause they want to expose themselves to everyone.
Whatever happened to indecent exposure? Some of these people are just plain ugly.

Why would anyone want to be nude in public anyway? No to public nudity. I would not want my grandchildren to see the man riding the bike fall and get his balls caught in a tire! Or the woman fall and never have achild for the rest of her life. Bodies are that great to be seen and freedom from clothes can cause you a lot of problems , such as falls, bug bites, sunburns, someone throwing something at you because you make them sick. I think a person who would go nude in public thinks they are doing something spectacular when in fact they are looking foolish and very stupid mentally.

Seriously...where do you people come from? You are a cliche' on the Simpson's "Won't somebody think of the children?!" You're a joke of society. "I don't have a problem with the nude body, but..." Blah, blah, blah. If you don't have a problem leave it at that. And who was the 7th grader(?) who wrote "What's next? Public sex?" You immature moron yes, public sex is next. Idiot! The children should be educated and counseled that nudity didn't molest them. People did. Don't teach them fear, educate them about there world. I choose not to practice public nudity but if I see it I have the choice to look away and go about my business. As long as they are 'behaving' and not a threat to public, who cares?! People grow up! It's the same argument you never get. If you don't like what you see or hear, TURN THE GODDAMN CHANNEL!!! or in this case turn your narrow minded head and go about your business since in the case of public nudity, who cares and nobody gets hurt. Don't teach fear or even tolerence, teach respect. Thank you.

We can't all conform to everything, everywhere and all the time - and it's not healthy for society that we should. We'd end up like one of those sci-fi things where everybody's wearing all green, all yellow or all blue and walking around like zombies. Averted eyes are the solution.

The city council should allow non lewd nudity in the parks. There is nothing wrong with our bodies no matter what size God gave us. In Europe, you see nude sunbathers all the time in the parks. What you don't see is problems with prudes and public sex. Most people in Europe don't think "SEX" every time they see a nude body. If our children see that our bodies are a good part of us. The maybe our next generation won't have so many psychological hang ups we have to pay millions of dollars to psychiatrists to help us get over.

the human body is beautiful but also sacred. Show if off to the whole world and it becomes cheap and common. Sorry Seattle. I won't be taking my chldren OR myself to you anymore. I used to be so proud of you. Hopefully other cities in

Absolutely!
Think this way. What if your teenage child become naked at the park? What if your preteen son goes to the park to watch naked women? What if your wife goes naked at the park without your knowledge? What if your husband goes to the park to watch naked women, or to become naked with other women?

I can't believe that Americans are still so censored about their bodies! This is a dumb law. America and religion has always tried to make people be ashamed of their bodies and make them think that showing skin is some type of sin. In Europe there is nudity all the time in public and on TV. They are not ashamed of who they are and they do not relate nudity to sex. I am not a "Hippy" or nudist, but I have no issues with people whom want bear it all. I do believe that the places where they are allowed to be nude, should be labeled, to let censored people make their own decision whether or not to enter that area.
Let em go naked, but put a fence around em and charge admission like Seafair. Then the photographers can make money putting the pictures on the internet. The city can make money off the admission and Greg Nickels can say all that hot steamy air is contributing to global warming, but then they will need bonfires to keep warm and he can also charge for that.Welcome to Seattle.

Legal restrictions on public nudity exist for one reason only - there are members in every culture who do not have the maturity to cope with the natural appearance of the human body. It is fortunate for the species that there are some cultures that cope better than others, however, the species as a whole still has far to go in its maturity on the issue.
Bans on nudity are, in effect, putting the least mature among us in charge of those whose maturity is less in question. This is turning civilization upside down by unjustly marginalizing and criminalizing those personally capable of physical, intellectual and emotional developmental progress and unjustly promoting those who remain incapable of such either willingly or unwillingly.
Obscenity exists only in the mind of those who have chosen to be offended. Let us put the genuinely mature back in control of our cultures that they can provide the example needed by those who are developmentally challenged.
