Students are trying to get a Portland school renamed after President-elect Barack Obama. Portland Public Schools was already in the process of renaming the school currently known as "Clark K-8 at Binnsmead School" and a naming committee is working on a list of suggestions that the public will eventually vote on. But after the November election, some of the students go the idea to throw Obama's name into the ring. So what do you think, should they name the school after President-Elect Obama? 14 CommentsLeave a comment |
The obama-zombies will stop at nothing to push their religion of idiocy.
Lets Wait and see what Obama does for the country first.
Thanks Don -
Most schools that were named after presidents did so AFTER the president was out of office and had PROVEN themselves as good leaders and American icons. To name a school after a president-elect is insane! He could be a raving success or a total disaster - only time will tell, but the school would be stuck with the name. Some of the folks who loved GW Bush in 2000 ended up despising him and his administration only a couple years later. I have no problem naming a school after Obama - only IF he is able to meet the legacy of such men as Lincoln, Jefferson and Roosevelt. Maybe people will come to their senses and not let 8 years olds make executive decisions...
Oh for pity's sake.
I know it's all very exciting to have a Black Man As President Elect! They never cease to remind us that he's BLACK!!! And it's EXCITING!!!
I thought he was going to be a post-racial candidate.
Now they want to celebrate him. Hey. Why not celebrate other really amazing folks (who happen to have dark skin) with better track records? How about....Benjamin Bannaker? Sojourner Truth? Alexander Crummel? Booker T. Washington? Ida Wells-Barnett? Harriet Tubman? George Washington Carver? Mary McLeoad Bethune? Langston Hughes? Colin Powell? Richard Pryor?? Bill Cosby? Ken Griffey Jr????
Please. Even George Washington didn't get a day in his name until he was dead. Neither did Martin Luther King Jr. Next people will be celebrating Obama just because he happens to breathe the same air they do.
I am an Obama voter, 100% Obama supporter, and I don't think it's a good idea to name any public facility after a sitting politician. Just look at Ted Stevens International Airport. Let the man serve his term, then judge accordingly.
I agree with Don, lets see what the man does first. We would not want to name a school after him and he turns out to be another Richard Nixon who was very popular until Watergate. He won 49 out of 50 states for his reelection in 1972 if I remember right.
I think we should rename the whole dam country Obamaland and just be done with it.
It's way too soon for anything like naming a school after Obama. He hasn't even begun yet to prove himself. How about John Mccain, a true american hero who has proven himself; or a famous teacher from the Portland area that changed the face of education in the area. There's got to be a better way!!
While within an other venue everyone would have simply said,... Is this a joke?
However things are different in Stump Town, OR as within the Republic of Multnomah; with its very own capital being Potterville, no one even thinks twice about such silly-little-water-wiggle stuff like this and yet, the TruBluLiberal PC among us will cheer loudly ... on and on, and on.
BTW - There is a rumor that "President BO" is actually also 1/2 white too.
So lets all wait a moment or two before naming this thing or that place unitl at least BOs 15-mins. of fame passed and then we will all see whether he is just another fast talking con-man with of-so very happy feet, because to be fair he cannot dance forever and sooner or later he will have to go to work, do some heavy lifting and then someday; somewhere, down the line it might be a good idea to remember him well ... but ... that time just hasn't happened yet.
Best Wishes to all ...
It's amazing how much praise this guy gets. Most of us, including myself no nothing about this man. This man has no reputation or track record in the West, except for the color of his skin. If the color of someone makes them successful, "Why are are the white people living on the streets of America?" So what he is President elect? Let see him in action, FIRST. Most schools are name in "HONOR" of those how prevailed...not because of their skin color. Maybe after he dies, we can name the school after him.
YES PLEASE, let's see if the rockstar can deliver. We don't know the first thing about this guy, except for what he wants the American people to believe. He has been talking alot, now let's see if he can walk the walk. Atleast my conscience is clear...I did NOT vote for him.
Oh brother!! I am so sick of hearing about Barack Hussein Obama...BTW since when does being half black cancel out being half white....hmmm, I guess we can expect him to use the white card if it will help his career.
I am a Democrat, I am fully in support of Obama, but it is hasty to name something in anticipation of the great things he will do in the years ahead. I personally believe there will be many reasons to laud him in the future, but putting the cart before the horse has never been a good idea. Don't we still have a number of schools and public works named for Hoover?
To tell you the truth none of your opinions count, the school district will do what ever they want. And for all you people who had a comment about Obama being black. Yes he is black, if you have a drop of black in you, you are considered black. And just because he is white and black doesn't mean he will use his white side when he has too. Growing up in America everyone has a little white in them, not color but other ways. He's not the only one that is mixed but claims to be black. You guys have Tiger Woods, he claims he is whitechineseblackAsian, but mostly white. HEhehhehe
