Safe Sex Posters in Dorms

The Hall of Representatives at Willamette University voted to allow Resident Assistants to hang posters containing condoms in dorms.

How do you feel about safe sex posters appearing in school dorms?

It sounds to me that these posters will encourage kids who are going to have sex to use protection. I think this is a good idea.

These "kids" are closer to being adults than children. I'm all for being responsible and promoting the awareness of safe sex. Dorms would be a perfect venue!

As Denise said, these "kids" are on their own at college. 99% are legally adults. This is just another pointless blog on NWCN. Is there really nothing better to start a discussion on that whether adults should be able to hang posters advocating being safe?

OK, so whats the big deal? If you are old enough to go to WalMart you've seen condoms on the rack by the hair spray so not something they haven't ever seen. They are old enough to function in a sexual manner then believe me, most will. After all it's a natural thing and fun. Lets help them keep it safe. If they are not sexual they won't need them and if they are-well sure beats having a bunch of 19 year old single moms. BTW- I a kid can go to war I don't think he/she is a kid anymore. I was in my generations war (Nam) and I can assure you yelling "Don't shoot, I'm only a kid" didn't work.

No big deal at all.

As we've all seen over the last several decades, a religious body can be steeped in deep denial (See Archdiocese of Boston / molestation scandal). We should not be in denial about the biological imperative called human sexuality, esp. when males reach their peak sex drive by the age they're entering college.

STDs and unplanned pregnancy are serious realities that must be discussed, and help young adults anticipate. These dorms are where the temptation arises - where sex happens - and where lives can be impacted as a result. The posters are important, appropriate and vital for these young adults.

Sounds great to me! We need more of these posters, all over the country! People who do not support that sort of thing need to go back to the 18th century.

Good grief! Why is this is even a news story or topic to discuss? The place is a UNIVERSITY, not a K-12 School. Between the Mariners not making it thru to any championship, and the Seahawks getting their butt kicked on Sunday by a bunch of Bucs, I guess NWCN has nothing good to talk about. :p Tssss... stings, don't it. hehe

This is fodder put out there by the conservative media to distract you from the election and the economy, and all the failures of the Bush-Cheney-McCain administration PURE and simple. Just like gay marriage was 4 years ago. This is what the radical right wing Republicans want you to be thinking about, idiotic things like this rather than our sinking economy, a failed occupation of Iraq, a losing war in Afghanistan, corrupt Republicans (Senator Ted Stevens in Alaska, Scooter Libbey's treason, Jack Abramhoff's guying of GOP Senators, Sarah Palin's obstruction of justice, the GOP's buying her and her family $150,000.00 in new clothes, etc, etc..)

Keep focused on the Real issues facing America and do NOT be tricked and lured into ridiculous side issues like this. Otherwise, you are feeding off the Con-manservatives irrelevant fodder and going down their ugly path of corruption...

Hmmm, Might be that Hello is correct-classic mis-direction if I've ever seen it. But what they are afraid of is that we will realize that if McCain and Obamas parents had practiced safe sex we wouldn't be faced with these two...think on it and laugh.

this is something that is talked about in universities all around us and to me is a form of censorship. coupon books given to students at the start of the new semesters at Boise State had a coupon to a condom store near the university. The coupons were ripped out of the book because some people were offended. If the displays do not attempt to press stone-age morality but instead encourage responsible sexual practices, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it and, in fact is a step forward in the maturity of some and of human culture in general.

Job one is to lose one's shame over one's body, then to lose shame for wanting an active sex life and actually having one, to educate ourselves on the healthiest practices for sexual behavior and, last but not least, to educate others on the same.

Respecting the efforts of some to denigrate certain sexual behaviors does not make my list. Such attempts at inducing shame in others out of a sense of one's own shame regarding one's own body and the human body in general are not to be respected.

Promoting safe sex is, in effect, promoting responsible liberty. Promoting abstinence merely advances immature thinking.
