A group in Seattle wants to set up a homeless car camp where people who live in their car can have a designated church parking lot to stay at. How would you feel if a homeless car camp was installed in your neighborhood? 15 CommentsLeave a comment |
If there is careful planning and preparation around the needs of those homeless people, including added security, I would not have a problem with that. When something like this is done right, I'm not one to say "not in my backyard."
I would be all for it! Being that there was a police interaction and maybe a set curfew at certain time`s due to drugs and stupidity!!!! We have ( Dignity Village ) here in Portland ore and it seems to doing good haven`t past in awhile
YES! I love that someone has stepped up to help these other homeless people. It is great they will have a free place to park their car/homes without worrying about being towed.
I hope they have also provided a means to aloow them to use a bathroom after church hours so that parents of young children have a means to take them in the middle of the night.
KUDOS, and I hope more churches do it too.

I've got to agree that it would be a good idea for a camp as long as it is policed and has means to potty. These people have been, for the most part, law abiding citizens. It seems they just need a place to park without being fined and ridiculed. There can be a common happy ground for everyone. I'm happy to see that churches are a means to salvation of human dignity without the state stepping in. God Bless.
oops...let me correct having police/state stepping in..which in itself has debate around that...yes, I'm for regulation as far as keeping it safe. I'm against authority saying what's right or wrong on personal property ect...ut oh, I think I'm digging my hole deeper.
A great idea. What an excellent way for the cops to keep an eye on those "for the most part law abiding citizens" (Georges comment) The " added security" (Phil comment) could be a chain link fence with a lock, and the "police interaction" (benyamin comment)could be guards. This sounds a little like a correctional facility. How about everyone becoming Patriotic (increasing your taxes) and we could actually build housing for these people.
I'd love to stop working and have other patriotic americans build me a house. Where do I sign up for the house?
There is nothing "patriotic" about having your income, for which you work hard, taken away from you effectively at gunpoint. Which by the way is all taxes are. Just try not paying them for a while, and see how long before the Feds or the State or somebody comes and takes your property away, with the full 'authority' of the state, with guns if necessary.
Here is how the Webster's Dictionary of 1928 defined 'patriotism':
PAT’RIOT, n. [L. patria, one's native country, form pater, father.]
A person who loves his country, and zealously supports and defends it and its interests.
PAT’RIOT, a. Patriotic; devoted to the welfare of one’s country; as patriot zeal.
patriotic
PATRIOT’IC, a. Full of patriotism; actuated by the love of one’s country; as a patriotic hero or statesman.
1. Inspired by the love of one’s country; directed to the public safety and welfare; as patriotic zeal.
PAT’RIOTISM, n. Love of one’s country; the passion which aims to serve one’s country, either in defending it from invasion, or protecting its rights and maintaining its laws and institutions in vigor and purity. Patriotism is the characteristic of a good citizen, the noblest passion that animates a man in the character of a citizen.
Nope. No mention of paying higher taxes so other people can live in houses they couldn't otherwise afford. Nope. Though the word 'welfare' is mentioned. Oh wait. The Welfare state hadn't been invented yet then. Can't be that.
In order to get to the point of living in a car, there has to be a level of disfunction in one's life. To have a whole group of people living together who might encourage each other in their disfunctional lifestyle might not be best for the people involved. Unless there is a large group of social workers holding individuals accountable, it would not do well to group people together. I don't see how the group could ever get smaller, only bigger without intense individual counseling.
THE CRISIS IS A PURE REFLECTION AND BY-PRODUCT OF EIGHT YEARS OF DISASTEROUS BUSH-CHENEY-GOP ECONOMICS AND THEIR HORRIFIC POLICIES THAT ALLOW THE RICH TO GET RICHER, AND THE POOR TO GET POORER. NOW THE REST OF US ARE STARTING TO FEEL IT WHILE WE WATCH OUR RETIREMENT FUNDS SHRINK ON A DAILY BASIS. WE CANNOT AFFORD 4 MORE YEARS OF THE (JOHN) MCSAME....PLEASE JOIN HARD WORKING AMERICAN PATRIOTS IN VOTING FOR CHANGE THIS NOVEMBER...VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN!! IT IS THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THIS MESS, DESPITE WHAT THE GREEDY, RICH, POMPOUS, AND ARROGANT CONMENSERVATIVES TELL YOU.

I think what you have to say is important and I agree with you, but can you please tone down the CAPS? It's like you're yelling!
My apologies Georgia. I am not yelling for sure, but very passionate and furious that ignorant folks out there are so confused, and brainwashed when they stick up for and defend the McCain/Phalin ticket and Bush/Cheney team. I just wish we could make them see reason, and how the GOP loses on EVERY single issue. This election needs to be a complete one sided Obama victory. It will make the GOP and this country better in the long run, and all know it. Those confused GOPers are still out looking for weapons of mass destruction, while refusing to beleive the memo that says that was all Bull (or Bush) sh__! I just cannot understand ignorance of this magnitude..? But back to the economy, McSame and Bush remember were aksing that you'all put your social security into the stock market, well be thankful the Democrats blocked that, or there would be allot of upset folks today that just realized they lost their SS along with their retirement funds....
Bush bashing is stupid. There were homeless people during the Clinton administration, during the Carter administration, and even during the Johnson administration when Lyndon Johnson promised to end poverty forever. If Obama wins this election, there will still be homeless people. There is no way that we will ever end homelessness.
As far as the stock market is concerned, it closed up for the week, despite the losses of Monday and Tuesday. I fail to see how very many people lost their retirement funds. Most people's retirement funds actually grew. It closed down today when the market saw that the Democrats were going to obstruct any attempt at restoring confidence in the economy.
Hating Bush is not a policy. Democrats, if they want to win this election, are going to have to come up with something other than just hating George W. Bush. If they win, the people of the US will actually expect them to do something! Imagine that. Don't you think it is about time that they told us what it is they think they would do?
Unfortunately, it's not just Bush hating anymore. Under his administration, the economy is the worse it's been in decades and from the actions of the GOP as a whole, they have proven to be quite negligent in sustaining the country as a super economic player...trickles down to more homeless ect...Just the facts ma'am, in my opinion, I'll chose to hate him.
It was Bush who actually got us in this mess. I suggest reading through these speach notes from 2002 where he encourages subprime lending:
