The Sonics are going to Oklahoma City next year, but Seattle gets up to $75 million in return. Owner Clay Bennett may not have to pay the entire amount if Seattle gets another NBA franchise. Are you willing to use taxpayer dollars to renovate KeyArena and bring a new team to Seattle?

NO! And not just no, but HELL NO! I'm sick and tired of being financially "raped" as a taxpayer so each professional sports team can have its "very own" and/or "new" arena/field/stadium. Bunch of spoiled brats. Get a clue folks -- IT'S JUST A GAME!

i wouldnt go to those games even if they were free. if the players wanna play let them pony up the millions out of thier own dammed pockets or whats left after the drugs hookes and alcohol.
we need to be putting our money into things like education our roads and bridges and not so some schmuck can cover himself with tatoos drunk driving tickets and hookers. i say good riddance! i think there used to be a time when this was something to be proud of but thats gone by the way side a long time ago.
If basketball fans want a new stadium, let basketball fans pay for it. I don't care if it's through ticket prices, concessions, or even if they have a bake sale, but I shouldn't have to spend a dime to indulge the sports fans' hobby.

As a tax payer I'm fed up for paying infrastructure or bridges that I never use or drive over. I think only those that really use those roads should pay for them ... sorta similar to what is posted above .. fans pay for the arena's
OH YEA!!! AND I THINK THE "SEAHAWKS PRACTICE STADIUM" IS A JOKE!!! USE A HIGHSCHOOL STADIUM. NOONE USES MEMORIAL STADIUM WHILE THEY ARE TRAINING. THEY DONT NEED AN ENTIRE STADIUM TO JUST PRACTICE IN. NOT ONE THAT WAS MADE FOR THEM. SCREW IT!

I do not understand what is meant by Key Arena not being up to NBS Standards. I guess the 1995 upgrade to then Seattle Center Coliseum does not count for anything.
KeyArena is the first publicly financed arena fully supported by earned income from the building. Its seating capacity for basketball games is 17,098, ice hockey games and ice shows 15,177, end-stage concerts 16,641, and center-stage concerts and boxing 17,459. Risers hold 7,440 on the upper level and up to 7,741 on the lower level, with luxury suites adding another 1,160 seats.
The renovation cost the city of Seattle $74.5 million, and the Seattle SuperSonics approximately $21 million.
The first regular season game that the Seattle SuperSonics played in the rebuilt arena was on November 4, 1995, against the Los Angeles Lakers.
So what do they mean by not up to NBA Standards
The wealthy team owners pay big bucks to mediocre players and when their teams lose they blame the arenas where their games are played. If sports teams want to have state of the art arenas to play in let them pay for them themselves. Why should the taxpayers pay for new arenas and then have to pay exorbitent prices to see those teams play? I for one am not sorry that the Sonics have left Seattle. I wouldn't care if the Seahawks or Mariners left either. I don't like sports and don't follow them. One of the main reasons is that there is no longer sportsmanship in sports. Players no longer play for the love of the sport but for the chance to make big money even when they don't deserve it. Brian Bosworth was a case in point. He was a so-called football superstar who was incapable of playing a decent game. In my opinion, athletes should be payed a basic salary and then get performance bonuses or fines based on their performance or lack thereof.
wow it seems most people could care less about this b ball move. i think there was about 150 comments about those deer, buckey and snowball.
including this post its now up to 10. i used to watch alot of football not much baseball and no basketball. i got tired of the over paid jocks, the money would be nice but i dont think i would want my kid to grow up to be like that. here is an idea for that stadium, turn it into a re hab center for our soldiers injured in afghanistan and iraq.
Like everyone else said, NO. I like professional sports, especially the seahawks and the other local teams, but its not a taxpayer issue. Taxes fund public infrastructure and programs, not privately owned sports franchises. Its time to make all citizens a share holder of the teams like Green Bay if thats the case. Im fed up with subsidizing these whiney team owners and crappy players. Screw that, the sonics sucked anyway.
