In November, Voters in Washington State will get the chance to decide on a "Death with Dignity" Initiative Right now, Oregon is the only state in the country that allows terminally-ill patients to take lethal prescription drugs. Do you think terminally-ill patients should be allowed to get a prescription for lethal drugs? 15 CommentsLeave a comment |
Its their choice, not anyone else's choice. This " Nanny " state is getting out of control
Just as the idea suggests Death with Dignity. Is it dignified to allow a person who is in pain and not expected to live to die a painful death?
We are compassionate enough to euthanize our animals when they are in the same situation.
I have an idea, why not ask a person who has taken care of a person who has died a painful death what they think. Better yet ask a terminally ill person how they would like to leave this world.
I'm sure my loved one who was struggle for breath for three days would have chosen to end his life in a peaceful manner if he was aware of his choice and able to take the prescription.
I know I want to die a peaceful and painless death. Hurray for Oregon and Death with Dignity. Thank you!
well life with dignity is pretty much out the window so if we cant have that its only fair to let a person decide when its time to check out.
Well, prescription drugs are certainly the cleanest most gentle way to go. My father suffered the last month of his life and the only thing that kept him from leaving with dignity is knowing that we would have to identify him if he were to take his own life. Seems this is such a stupid irrational discussion that is extremely necessary.
Every person should be able to make there own decision, on whether to end there life if they are terminally ill. It sure isn't up to someone else, who think they are almighty god!!
I do not believe it is right to end your own life. That is SUICIDE! And, against God's will. "Thou shalt not kill!" That includes your own self. It is not up to us. We do not have to die an agonizing death. There are medications we can take to control the pain. If they eventually don't work, as in the case of cancer, there are always medications to induce a coma during the last days here this earth. And, making a Living Will according to your wishes IS A MUST! Thanks for listening.
i dont think religion and laws should be joined at the hip, look at the problems that has caused in places like iraq. believe in what ever you want but keep your religion in your church and out of the court house.
Hey Lady, what you said is the problem, YOU "do not believe" in it, which is fine, but DO NOT force your beliefs on the rest of us. What I find amazing is how our home grown American Christian Taliban always tout their belief in life (anti-abortion, and anti-death with dignity), but are ALWAYS PRO-DEATH when it comes to the death penalty. Talk about hypocracy!
I do not beleive in hard core religious fanatics, for they are the downfall of civilized society and the end of the world. It does not matter if you are a right wing christian, jewis, muslim, hindu, etc., ALL THE PROBLEMS OF THE WORLD can be traced to these groups and "their beliefs." Our founding fathers, all religous men, saw the evil when politics and religion are one, and set up this wonderful government with that basic truth in place, yet we see the The Christian Taliban trying to tear that down EVERY DAY! WE MUST UNITE AND STOP THEM BEFORE THEY TURN US INTO A 'CHRISTAIN' IRAN!
I beleive any one terminal ill should have the choice, it makes no sense for them to live on in pain and on medication while there body slowly goes and the medical filed pockets more money.
It saddens me to notice that we cannot have any serious discussions regarding any issues without people bringing GOD, LEFT WING POLITICIANS, OR WHATEVER into it. I wish you people would GROW UP!
Oh, by the way, I support the right for a person to select medical assisted suicide over pain or the financial ruin of their survivors.
Especially in country where you must pay or die, death with dignity is a viable option to those that wish to self terminate. it is cheaper than prolonged healthcare, and does not burden the family with hard financial decisions or bankruptcy just to keep the ill person alive.
the best way is morphine they die with no pain, give them enough and they die in there sleep
because they just stop breathing,it's legal because it's a DR. order.(every dose & times given.)
The simple fact is, those who want to get rid of people they consider a burden will support "assisted suicide." To see their true agenda, look at comments like "financial burden;" note that in Oregon, where assisted suicide is legal, health care will pay for assisted suicide but not for medical treatment; notice that doctors will claim that a person has a brief time to live when they haven't a clue--probably to avoid caring for the patient. My mother was given a month to live but lived for well over a year, in reasonable health.
I don't think a discussion can happen on a topic like this without someone bringing up religion. Since many of them vote, and vote for the laws and people alligned with what they believe, we need to have them see how illogical they are when it comes to DAS. The online slamming of their crazy opinions and arguments seem only to push them further away hurting what we want from them in the voting booth. The simple fact is that the seperation of church and state protects all of us - why can't people understand this?
You all are a bunch of Blog Bullies (except Lady). Anyone who doesn't agree with you gets slammed. What you fail to understand is that 1.6 million christians in the state will stand against you in the voting booth this Novemeber. Good Luck with your little project; me and a bunch of other people can't wait to see it fail. I am "my beliefs" and won't vote against them. Keep moving bullies.
