As a Boeing worker or northwest resident with a vetted interest, what do you think about the Pentagon's decision to open the tanker deal for re-bidding?

Yes, lets do it all over again and this time do it right. Like keep the jobs and the money in America. Not send it overseas to countries and people that don't like US anyway.

Frankly, I can't wait to see our esteemed Congressional reps pat themselves on the back again for something they should have stopped before the competition was ever decided. The minute NG climbed into bed w/ Airbus, they should have cried foul.
The people of Alabama obviously fail to understand the impact of allowing a foreign, government backed entity to have access to our military software and secrets...and I believe they will. Boeing also has facilities in Alabama. Were NG and Boeing smart, they would take this opportunity to combine forces and toss EADS out of the picture.
The fact that the Air Force changed parameters in order to keep EADS in the competition is shameful. They screwed up and now the entire process is again held up because of (what I perceive as) arrogance and a directed effort to stick it to Boeing for the past scandal. John McCain's decision to call for an open bidding process should have included the restrictions of only American companies being allowed to bid military contracts. Of course, I think he has benefitted from a relationship w/ Airbus and their lobbyists.
The American taxpayers should not be held hostage to pay for a plane that will be benefit a company that our own government has sued for subsidy violations! Our tax dollars should only be spent on American miltary planes by American companies! I have never agreed w/ subcontracting to foreign sources. Because we have gutted our manufacturing base, we have allowed cheaper, foreign competitors to take over! It's just plain wrong!

What did the Air Force want in the first place? What were the criteria for meeting their needs over the long run? How much of this will benefit the US in jobs, parts, support throughout it's lifetime?
IN the land of recounts isn't a rebid what we all should expect?
If Boeing doesn't get the award this time, I would expect we will demand some sort of hand recount and then go to court if need be. In the end the contract will be ours.

Hahahahaha .. lets keep development of our military stuff in the USA .. hahahaha .. hahaha .. let me stop laughing first. Ever heard of the Joint Strike Fighter .. the replacement of the US fighter jets? Who do you think builds these? The US? Its build by 9 (!!!) different countries. Check the details before you are crying foul on the tanker deal:
Boeing has already cheated on the tanker deal once with Mike Sears and the contracting officer. McCain investigated and found wide spread corruption. The executives not the workers need to stop taking excessive "threshold" stock price manipulated stock bonus for failure to get the contract honestly the first time, now the taxpayer has to wait for a 3rd redo, because the Boeing Executives cheat and then use political power instead of a competitive airplane that meets the criterion. This 767 is a dead airplane no customer will buy it so Phil Condit wanted to stuff this turkey down the taxpayer throat and now the executives are still at it.
What is wrong with a 787 only the newest plane that is more fuel efficient, but wait Boeing is selling them like hot cakes or yes the executives failure to properly use american workers and instead offloaded those subcontracting jobs caused a 14 month delay so far. I think the 1.5 billion in front end loaded stock bonus already paid to the likes of executives like Allan Mulally gone to Ford should be based not upon stock manipulation. It should be based upon successful bid wins the first time and bringing in the 787 on scheduyle and on budget not on the crap of airplane orders which can not be met due to management failure.
The 767 and the Airbus plane are both made world wide there is nothing more American about a 767 than a Aibus the final assembly is the same both done in America so look at where the parts are made for the 767 and compare with airbus both are world wide supplier based.
The worst thing is the 767 is not selling to any customers it is a obsolete airplane and the taxpayer is getting a bad deal because Boeing greedy executives are waving the American flag now , wait until the Union tries to get a fair pension for their workforce, then Boeing Executives who kept 1.5 billion in extra pay will do like Allan Mulally did last contract, he claimed the Union was going to cripple the Boeing company with a demand for a billion dollars more than the company could pay, the figure was 90 million more in a 3 year 4 billion dollar contract and it was denyed. If the executives can take 1.5 billion in extra compensation they need to earn it, you know like the American worker at Boeng on the assembly line is doing now taking the crap from 787 subcontactors and remaking it to fix and work.
The executives need to carry their own weight for a change and stop stealing from the taxpayer, the shareholder and the Washington small business's who have had their business taxes increased to compensate for the tax breaks given to Boeing!

I don't like to see government contracts go to foreign companies but, to be honest, I'm not so sure Boeing deserves it. I saw a news story a few weeks ago(I think it was on NWCN) that Boeing is something like two years late on filling orders for their 787's to commercial airlines and it will be at least another year before those order can be filled--maybe! If Boeing gets this new contract will they be able to fill it on time and at cost or will their inability to fill the order on time cause the cost to us, the taxpayers, to increase. Personally, I have my doubt as to whether Boeing will be able to do the job. They don't seem to be the company they once were.

I'm new to the area and I'm not in this industry. I know this re-bid is big (and good) news for the local economy. How long is the re-bid expected to take? How long did it take last time?
As a Boeing employee (union member),
I have to take exception to NWCN's one sided
reporting of the impending strike. You
fail to report the story of Boeing employees
that are union members. The video
clip of Doug Kight is nothing more than Boeing
propaganda. What happened to fairness in
reporting?? If you want the real story, how
about going to Auburn, or Renton, or Everett,
or Wichita, or Frederickson, and interview Boeing
employees(not management) on the shop floor? You will
get the real story there. Also, contact my
union: http://www.iam751.org/. Anything you get
fed from Boeing is most certainly going to be
nothing more than propaganda - A LIE - crafted to
discredit the employees on the shop floor that
daily make Boeing successful. Without our blood,
sweat, and tears, Mr Kight and the management
hierarchy of Boeing would not be successful. They
are doing their best to make money off of the
backs of their dedicated union member employees.
This recent contract offer is an insult and a
stab in the back of all union member Boeing
employees. Matter of fact, a great number of us
(myself included) live in poverty as a result of
the greed on the part of Boeing. I live from
paycheck to paycheck and can hardly make ends
meet. Boeing pay and benefits are very poor -
Chump change! The more work they get out of us
the more they want - and now Boeing wants to hand
us a lousy contract in return. Don't let the
Boeing rhetoric fool you - The contract that
Boeing has offered is garbage - TOTALLY
UNACCEPTABLE - It is imminent that we will go on
strike until the company lives up to all of its
empty promises of past contracts, plus gives us,
the ones that make them successful, enough to
live on and support our families. We are not
trying to be greedy - We simply want our piece
of the Boeing pie, in the form of a good, fair
contract. So far Boeing has done nothing but
insult its loyal employees. Enough is enough!
It is time to go on strike, for as long as it
takes.
Don't drink the Boeing Kool-Aid. It is all a
lie, crafted to gain public sympathy, and to
confuse and place fear into the minds of our
families.
