I think it would really depend on the exact circumstances of said kiss. If it was ongoing, drawn-out, and/or obnoxious, then yes - the usher was right. If it were a simple kiss that you would see with any couple at a game, then it's homophobia and the usher was wrong.

First, there is a 3rd option, not all who find homosexuality morally offensive are homophobic. To class all opponents as homophobic begs important questions. (I personally don't find homosexuality offensive in any way.)

Second, we can't really answer this question without knowing whether the couple was groping (i'm assuming that groping in public is indecent).

I wasn't there to witness this event and cannot make a fair assessment of the situation, but I was there in May and noticed an extreme viciousness and intolerance in general amongst Mariner fans.

I've been going to professional sporting events in Seattle (we live in Oregon) for over 20 years. Never have I experienced such vehemence amongst the normally good natured Mariners Fans. I was wearing a shirt for the other team and was the object of some nasty provoking by people around me as were some other "visiting" fans. I'm a fat middle aged woman - what threat am I? Never have I seen Seattle full of such haters. I think this incidence speaks to a larger issue amongst unhappy Mariners Fans.

Maybe if the Mariners were winning, this wouldn't even be an issue.

This a matter for the Seattle Office for Civil Rights. Seattle's anti-discrimination laws protect you from harassment. Harassment is conduct that is directed at you because of your race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, etc. It sounds to me like these young women were harassed by the Seattle Mariners in a stadium built with public money. Every time you go out to dinner, part of the tax you may on that meal is going to support illegal harassment at Safeco Field sanctioned by the City of Seattle, Major League Baseball, and the Seattle Mariners.

A logical response to those who would use the Bible to aggress against same-sex kisses: If a Bible-thumper were to actually break open an exhaustive concordance, they would find something quite different from Al's post. The verse cited does not refer to kissing between individuals of the same sex at all. Furthermore, the book is replete with examples of Jesus himself kissing men on the lips, as well as instruction for those following his path to greet one another with such a kiss (ie: Romans 16:16, 1Cor 16:20, 2Cor 13:12, 1Thes 5:26, 1Peter 5:14). All of those passages were written by the same Apostle (Paul) that you claim instructs against same-sex kissing. The Bible is not a weapon to justify hate, but rather an example of how to love. If you loathe the actions of your fellow man, or woman, you are violating many of the other tenets of your own religion, in regards to passing judgement against them. Love and your God will love you. Hate and your God will hate you.

I'm not entirely sure why it is a matter of religion, race, or sexual orientation. Why is ANYONE making out in public if they are there for a game? Go home if you want to make out. Public is public, and private is private. Some things, no matter who you are, do not need to be done in public. The saddest part of your tirade to me is that you say you will never tolerate hate, and yet you are so full of it yourself. I grew up believeing the Bible to be infallable. I no longer hold that opinion. I believe GOD to be infallable. It should make no difference to you if someone chooses to live what you term "fiction" or not. I find same-sex kissing (the romantic, sexual kind) as objectionable as I do same-sex marriage. Neither is the will of God, but of Satan. Heterosexual kissing is always appropriate "in private"; behind closed doors. Heterosexual kissing, if done discreetly, should even be done by the parents (MOTHER and FATHER) in front of their children so that their children can see and grab the concept of love the way it should be between a woman and a man in this world, according to God's law. Same-sex marriage is a terrible sin.

However, I hesitate to curb my actions when people simply find them distatesful or unnatural or not to their liking.

The Mariners and The Seahawks don't give a flying rat's a$$ about you. Season ticket holders are constantly being kicked out for the season for some inane crap. Nearly 100% of the time it is because someone whined. I've seen people tossed from the park for standing behind THEIR OWN SEATS in an aisle in the Hawk's Nest (you know, where nobody's view is impeded because the next row of seats is up overhead). When harrassed by the ushers, they refused to show their ticket, and that was that. They revoked the guy's season tickets while they were at it.

It's like the radio, folks. If you don't like what is coming out of it, there's a volume knob, and a tuning knob. Figure it out.
