High gas prices mean a shorter work week for road crews and parks workers in Clark County, Washington.
Public works employees are now working four ten-hour days a week, instead of five eight-hour shifts.
The county estimates working fewer, longer days will save 65-hundred gallons of fuel and 26-thousand dollars over the next few months.
What do you think about having a four day work week?

I started a new job last July with a company on a 4 day work week schedule and I love it! One less day of commuting and a whole day to myself to catch up on life or do whatever. I can't imagine going back and a long as the commute isn't too long, would recommend it to anyone!

Working 4-10 hr days is more productive than 5-8 hr days and is a good strategy for workers. It does save time and money both for the county and the employees.

Working a four day work week is great. For the past nine months that's what I've been doing. Two nights a week I work midnight until 8:00 in the morning and on Saturday and Sunday I work noon until midnight. Gas prices have nothing to do with it. I've never owned a car and never will. I was 25 before I ever got a driver's license even though I took driver's ed. when I was 15 and a half. I walk two miles to work every day and two miles home. People have gotten so dependent on cars that they've gotten lazy. I grew up in Everett and we lived three blocks from Everett High School. Both of my brothers drove to school every day. My younger brother drove the three blocks to school and ended up parking four blocks away. Ridiculous! Look around you and see how out of shape everyone is. I've lost almost 12 pounds walking to and from work everyday, not to mention I enjoy my extended weekends.
I think if you people that drive every day Would STOP buying Gas from the station thatget their oil from saudi we would have lower gas prices now.......... Your paying the people that r killing us..........

I love my 10 hour shifts. They sure seem to go by faster than the old 8's. All of a sudden it's Friday!

There was a study done in 2003, from the US Department of Labor working with the French Labour Ministry comparing the US work week to the French. Europe in general is at work roughly 1/4 less than the US however is about 45% more productive. I thought that was an interesting study and I can see how it's accurate because of morale issues, etc... Also, Europeans, on average, do not go to work when they're sick while Americans do, which hinders corporations. My employer definitely encourages people to stay home if they're sick. Perhaps a four day work week would change people's outlook on work?
