Experts say pet monkey in Spokane that bit three people had to be put down so it can be tested for rabies. Some Workers at Spokanimal disagree with the decision. Do you believe Chico the Monkey should have been put down? 11 CommentsLeave a comment |
No i dont think Chico The Monkey should have been put down, i think a better solution would have been to put him in a safe or bigger cage, and occasionaly take him out. Because when the test results come back, what if he doesnt have rabies?
like what happend to smowball the deer there were laws in place that people ignored. now im sure the people at the health dept are going to get low lifed. if they wouldnt have illegally brought this animal into this county in the first place non of this would have happend. if this is what needed to be done to protect the health of the public so be it, besides that if they didnt do this and someone died from rabies the tax payers would have footed the bill. prosecute the offenders fine them and send them to jail. yeah i think they did the right thing.
Im not sure what the big deal is, Its just a crazed monkey! You'll kill human babies all day long but as soon as someone humanely puts down a monkey you freak! Get over it!
It's unfortunate that this beautiful animal was euthenized. It's too bad they couldn’t have solved this with a spinal tap and then sent the monkey to a zoo or exotic animal shelter.
On the flip side, concerning those who were protesting this animals demise, I think it's safe to say we won't see them united in front of an abortion clinic anytime soon . Is there anything more innocent and worth protecting than a human baby?
We need to wake up as a society. The daily loss of unborn babies in this country should enrage us far beyond the loss of any animal. (We'll fight harder for Whales and Polar Bears than babies around here)
Number one: Tony you are an idiot(March 10, 9:53pm)you're a good reason people have/should have abortions. Second, the monkey is an innocent victim. Next time put down the ignorant stupid humans who; captured him, sold him, purchased him and forced him to live with dirty humans! Poor monkey.
Wow. I sure do not see why babies and abortions have been brought into this. Can't you people stay focused?
The government has a responsibility to it's citizens to protect them from dangerous animals. I am not sure if the only way to test Chico for rabies did require him being put down, but that is what happened.
I am sure that most of are aware that there are usually "Exotic Animal" laws in most communities. I would love to own a Serval, but there are laws where I live prohibiting that, and realistically I could not be a responsible owner of one.
Obviously the owners of Chico were not responsible animal owners. They broke the local laws by having the animal and did not provide a secure enough cage/home for the animal. I am sure that if most of you thought long and hard enough, you would be able to think of people who should not be allowed to own the dog or cat that they now have.
If you want to own (or do own) an animal be human enough to provide it with the best care available.
From the CDC: In situations where rabies is suspected in an exotic pet species (to which a human or domestic animal exposure has occurred) it is recommended to euthanize and test the animal for rabies.
Brain tissue is required for a rabies test, spinal fluid is not an acceptable alternative. Quarantine and observation of an animal is used only in domesticated breeds (dogs, cats, and ferrets), and then only for healthy housepets.

Brian, I brought it up because nobody seems to care about the loss of human life anymore. Killing a monkey will make headlines. Abort 10 babies in slums of Seattle and nobody cares.
I think that Chico could have been dealt with more humanely. Is it possible that Chico was only defending himself in the only way he knew how? Did the persons that were bit antagonize him?
Just food for thought...
Its just a stupid monkey, remember people there were children that got bit, If it was your child
would you still be saying let the monkey stay alive but in the meantime I will let my child die
what are you selfish what comes first the safety and wellfare of humans or stinky monkeys, your all selfish..
It's just a stupid salmon. It's just a stupid polar bear. It's just a stupid eagle. That kind of wrong thinking is going to cost us every species that we think is just a stupid whatever. And besides how would putting that critter somewhere else have been a threat to your children?
