How do you feel about the U.S. entering its sixth year in Iraq?

The war has cost us as many dollars as there are stars in our Galaxy.
That's 500 Million.
My taxes pay for this. And my kids and grandkids will be paying as well.
I know! Lets start by bringing all those 150 thousand private security forces home.
The war would then be half price!

The U.S. is not safer or better as we acknowledge the 6th anniversary of the Iraq war. We lost thousands of young people, maimed many more, civilian casualty number must be unprintable, the U.S. economy is down the drain, the middle class is once again bailing out the financial institution;those responsible for this debacle will get their incentive bonuses, deferred compensation, and will not be prosecuted. Our tax rebate will just line the oil companies pockets.

This war is immoral, illegal, and should be stopped immediately, and US forces should be brought home.
The only reason it is going into its 6th year is that Bush hasn't received guarantees from the puppet Iraqi gov't for the Iraqi oil to go to the multinational oil companies. once that is accomplished, then the Bush administration, will truly say 'mission accomplished'. After that a token US force will need to remain in Iraq in order to protect the oil interests of the multinationals.

Terri said:

Five years ago this March 18, the U.S. sent tens of warplanes, attack ships, and tens of thousands of troops half-way around the world to invade Iraq, a country of 25 million people the size of California. On the fifth anniversary of the war, important and urgently needed protests are now going on.

The Bush administration claimed that Iraq had dangerous weapons of mass destruction that threatened America. But Iraq had no WMD—and the U.S. government knew it.

Bush said he was invading to prevent another Sept. 11 attack. But Iraq wasn’t working with al Qaeda and had no connection to Sept. 11—and the Bush gang knew it.

The Bush regime claimed it was invading to liberate the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein’s tyranny. But the U.S. invasion was never about liberating Iraqis—or anybody else. It was about conquering, controlling, and imposing more direct U.S. domination of Iraq. And the occupation is a continuation of those goals. The U.S. isn’t in Iraq today to “fix the damage” it’s done. It’s in Iraq to conquer the country. The occupation is a continuation—an escalation—of the crime of invading Iraq.

This is why the invasion and occupation have turned Iraq into a bloody killing field, torn the country apart, and left much of it in ruins. Today, five years into its brutal occupation, life for millions of Iraqis is a waking, hellish nightmare—even worse than under the tyrant Saddam.

The U.S. pasted together reactionary forces, put them in power, then called it a democratic government. This helped unleash factional death squads, which have ravaged the country with ethnic cleansing. Today there is no coherent central government, but a patchwork of reactionary gangs running different parts of Iraq, with the U.S. military the biggest gangsters of all. Meanwhile, the Bush regime has tried to rewrite Iraqi laws to open its economy and oil wealth to American capital. It has built massive military bases, some of which could be permanent and used to attack other countries.
As a result of all the U.S. has done and let loose, many, many more Iraqis have been killed, wounded, maimed, tortured, brutalized and driven from their homes during the occupation than during the invasion itself. The most accurate scientific surveys put the toll at 500,000 to one million Iraqi dead as a result of the war and occupation. Between 4.5 and 5 million Iraqis have been forced from their homes by what the U.S. has done and let loose—that’s approximately 20 percent of the entire population, equivalent to roughly 60 million Americans. Much of Iraq lacks basic services; people in Baghdad have less water than before. Over 24,000 Iraqis now languish in U.S.-run prisons—most without charges. Iraqi women are now subject to more brutality than ever, including because the new Iraqi government is trying to impose reactionary Islamic law.
The pictures from Abu Ghraib capture what this occupation is really about: the smiling, smirking faces of GIs giving the “thumbs up” signs next to mutilated Iraqi corpses, while Iraqi prisoners are stripped naked and terrorized, humiliated, and degraded by U.S. soldiers and dogs. Or you could study a piece in the Nation magazine by Chris Hedges and Laila Al-Arian which paints the picture of indiscriminate killings by the U.S. military, with its pervasive attitude that “A dead Iraqi is just another dead Iraqi,” as one vet put it. It’s a “dark and depraved enterprise,” in which “many troops declared open war on all Iraqis.” (Iraq Veterans Against the War recently held “Winter Soldier” hearings in Washington, DC which brought forward much more such testimonies.)

And there is no end in sight to this brutality.
Why did things turn out like this?
It’s because the invasion of Iraq is part of a bigger plan to conquer, subdue and more directly dominate and control the entire region around Iraq—the Middle East.

And this, in turn, is all part of a plan—which has been clearly spelled out in official U.S. government strategy documents—to use this entire region as a weapon in a global battle to create an unchallenged and unchallengeable U.S. imperialist empire to dominate the entire planet and control the destinies of billions of people.
So the Iraq war was not—and IS not—a “mistake” or “bad policy.” This war was based on lies. This war is in the service of empire. This war is a moral crime. And the U.S. occupation of Iraq, including the targeting of the civilian population for death, degradation, and rape is a war crime by the standards of the Nuremberg Tribunal that judged the Nazis.

It’s in the interests of the people of the world—and of the people in the U.S.—to stop this war and get out of Iraq—right now. What’s urgently called for is the level of massive protest and resistance we saw five years ago—on the eve of the invasion. People should work toward that—and join with all who want to build this kind of mass political resistance.

I think Cheney's reaction to the reporter's question regarding the public's objection to the war says it all. "So?"
It has nothing to do with security. It has nothing to do with democracy. It has everything to do with selected companies getting governmental contracts and access to as many tax dollars as possible.

The U.S. is not any better off or more secure in this fifth year of the war in Iraq. The Administration has cried wolf too many times. We lost too many young people in the war, maimed many many more, sufferred too many Iraqi civilian casulties, the US economy is going down the drain, and the middle class is going to bail out the failed banking industry once againw. Our tax rebate will go in the pockets of the oil companies, we never have enough money for schools or health care, but plenty of millions and trillions to fight and unjust war. Osama BinLaden must be laughing as we speak. He is still free!

I am really getting tired of somber faced news anchors and protest groups parading dead soldiers around like they know what they're talking about.

This war really is not about human life. Lives lost around the world defending our foreign policy is a drop in the bucket compared to the damaged we do to ourselves right at home.

Over 75,000 AMERICIANS die every year just from alcohol abuse. 30,000 or so from medical related problems and 40,000 from alcohol related car crashes.

More Americans die in the streets of California, Texas, and Florida from alcohol related car crashes each year then die in combat.
A lot more.

Do you want to stop the needless killing? End the suffering? Bring families back together?

Why don't we start at home in OUR own lives before we start arm-chair quarterbacking for our President?

Just because we have not found w m d's does not mean that they don't exist. My question isn't why were they not there but rather where are they? The problem was not going into Iraq. The problem was not going into Iraq soon enough. By not being decisive and waiting we gave them time to disperse the w m d's and now may never find them till they are used on us.There was never any question that the w m d's existed just that we were unable to locate them. I feel that our troops need to be there now more then ever. If for nothing else then to assist the fledging freedom movement that hopefuly will keep the the type of people who would use them against the U.S. from returning too power. I am sure that there is another man just like Saddam waiting unseen for our troops too depart so he or they can return too power. If we had a ruler like Saddam I could only hope that a government like the U.S. was around the help free us and assist us till we were able to stand not alone but shoulder to shoulder with friend and allies. So yes not only do I think we shoud have gone too Iraq but that we need to stay as long as needed too finish the task we started.

I think Terri said it all. I also find it interesting that the supporters of the war have poor grammar. Just a thought.

Everything about this war is a lie. Everything Bush and his administration has said about the war has turned out to be a lie. Are we safer now? Bush has said close our borders, but has made sure they were were not, so illigals could get across. Then he tries to give the responsibility of our ports security to the people that are supporting our enemys. Just last week, he's going to give other countrys contracts to build our military equipment. No wonder he thinks the war is going to be going on for 100 years, and guess who looses?
Iraq is making billions of dollars on the oil they sell worldwide and we spend our money and soldiers on protecting their profits. Why arn't they paying for their own war?
Lie, after lie, after lie, when are the people going to wake up from this nightmare?

Douglas said:

Everyone knows that the only reason we are in Iraq is because we have a war profiteering cabal called “the bush administration” who usurped power in 2000 and again in 2004. The war is illegal, immoral, and unconstitutional (or maybe not since the bush cabal has destroyed so much of the constitution) nevertheless when America is run by a criminally corrupt regime and the MSM refuses to report anything about the illegal, immoral and wasteful endeavors conducted but these heinous individuals what can “We the People” do?

The founding fathers envisioned a “free press” not a bunch brainless, mindless, lackeys spreading lies and half-truths for their own personal gains. Halliburton/KBR charges the American government $250,000.00 per year per worker while they pay many of those workers $1.00 per day? This war will end up costing trillions of dollars and destroying millions of innocent Iraqis lives not to mention destroying/ruining hundreds of thousands of American lives. Now the bush administration accumulates the largest deficit spending in the history of the world. The republican congress for bushes first six years in office did absolutely nothing but pass pork spending for there republican donors and take vacations. Until the democrats took over in 2006 they were in session on average 1.5 days per week. Why aren’t those are not stories worth reporting?

The republican congress held no oversight hearings and when the democrats did hold hearings they were criticized in the MSM for holding those hearings/doing their jobs.
But wait if a democrat tries to spend some money on our neediest citizens or our crumbling infrastructures all of a sudden deficit spending becomes a huge issue which just can not be tolerated and is reported by the MSM with relentless fervor. With that being said the only thing two things I watch the MSM for are weather reports and sports, which was why I was watching the news today.

Yes the bush administration is profiting from the war as is the MSM if not directly benefiting; disasters created by war make great headlines. The MSM in America today is one of the most irresponsible, corrupt, anti-American organizations in the world.

Oh yes, in answer to your question with the exception of those minor caveats I’m sure the war is going fine and to paraphrase what our brave and fearless president stated, ‘it must be exciting and fun for those lucky soldiers serving in Iraq and if he were younger and did not have his current job he would be in Iraq with them’. And since this was reported in the MSM I’m sure it is true after all the MSM has never ever reported that this president has ever lied to or deceived the American people.

This war was a mistake to begin with and to continue it is pure folly. The only benefactors are the defense contractors and big oil. We are not safer and we have devasted Iraq and our economy. Bush and company need to brought to trial for the crimes against Iraq and the crimes comitted against us.

Chris said:

I think we should pull out right away and let the Iraqi's deal with there own issues. We've done enough babysitting and trying to control the world. When it comes to religion and people who have no sense of life values let them kill each other and keep the money from the war to help our own declining economy.

Why would the President want to stop a war that provides so much oil and gas money for him and his family? After all, he does have his retirement and library to worry about.

With so many people dieing from crime, drinking, senseless auto accidents and suicide in this country I think the war represents a small loss if you really care about life and the cause is just not senseless

what we have seen on television do not reflect any of the truth behind the war of Iraq.
If we watch the news from other countries around the world, we can see what U.S troops do in Iraq from other perspectives. We can see Bush's policies are transforming into an Imperialism.
I remembered a journal which was shown by my psychology class professor. The journal is an interview from an old time, the mother of the U.S President now - George W. Bush. He was a kid at that time. In the interview, his mother described his childhood life. One example was a game in a golf club or something, he knew he was going to lose in the game, he walked away without finishing it. As a psychology class, my professor analyzed Bush's childhood behaviors may lead to his behaviors nowadays. He does not want to admit that he is a loser. He walked away as a way to stop the game, to destroy the game. And he may not want to be a winner, but he hates other people become a winner instead. And whenever he insists to do one thing, he will try to get it. Of course, these are just an analysis demo in a psychology class.
How many Americans have disagreed the war so far? How many people around the world disagreed the war so far? What if he insists...
The meaning of the war to fight terrorism, is it because of the justice? Is it because of the oil? Is it because of someone's imperialism?
He is the President of the United States, but we paid his salary. We paid for the war. We paid for everything.
According to the news i watched, about 26% of American households have late payments due on their mortgages on Feb.
Just last thought, do we wanna fight?

Tonight, I heard the NWCN anchor state "The war was started under the guise of WMD, which there were none." You people are grossly ignorant of the facts. WMD doesn't have to be Nuclear or even Biological. What about Chemical munitions?? YES they did and still do exist in the country. Do some research, hundreds maybe thousands of our soldiers have been maimed and killed by these "nonexistent" Weapons of Mass Destruction. I spent my time in service. My wife and Son have both spent a year each in country. My wife is currently in Afghanistan. If you have any doubts, go enlist for three years or more. Go there yourself. Don't sit back on your BS "facts" and spout putrid lies from your idiotic, ignorant, stupid, unintelligent pie hole.

Five years (maybe 95 more years according to Sen. McCain), 4000 dead US troops and many more maimed, thousands of Iraqis killed and millions homeless, billions of dollars spent, the economy of our country in ruins. End this now. "Support the Troops - Bring Them Home"!

Just listen to the ConMan-servatives try and justify trillions of dollars, thousands of American lives for nothing!! We are no safer than when Saddam was in power. In fact, the Radical Republicans have created the largest terrorist factory in the world, its called IRAQ! There were no weopans of mass destruction, and I just love reading the idiot military and republicans who try and justify that lie, you can't do it, so don't try!! There were none, there are none, YOU WERE LIED TO by your so-called Brave Bush and Cheney!! What about chemical munitions GI Joe, they could NOT find those either!! Besides, Rusmfeld and Reagan gave Saddam chemical munitions to kill Iranians. Listen to Bin Ladens speech today, he is not saying leave Iraq US, he is saying stay, so we can Kill More Americans!! They cannot reach us here, but can there. Mccain and the rest of the Conmen-servatives have it all wrong, and they know it!! Al Qaida wants us in Iraq, so they can Kill us, they do not want us to leave...Only the Democrats seem to get that.

Dude, quit smoking the agent orange and listening to Rush L, our soldiers are being killed by bombs, not chemicals dude...trip down. Just because you are brain washed, don't try that crap on us. This is not a war in Iraq, its a failed Occupation, but the criminals in the White House will never call it that. There is no exit stratagy and No way to Win, what is victory anyway? Not one Radical Republican can define what victory even looks like....That is a big, big problem folks!

Mr. Moderate and "Rightous"...... 1. I've "BEEN THERE, DONE THAT". 2. I can spell "Righteous" correctly. I have both an academic education and practical, hands-on experience. You are apparently the guys "smoking canine fecal matter". You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground, maybe you should pack some sand in it.......from Iraq or Afghanistan. You bleeding heart, dope smoking, tree hugging P.O.S. You should move to Berkley, California.

Hey now said:

Mr. Military guy, I have to stick up for whats right here, if you are so educated why do you not respond intelligently to the peoples issues? Afraid? Yeah, thats what we thought! The only education you have is in VULGARITY, and that is nothing to be proud of. Why don't you go to Iraq and patrol the same ol streets as our brave troops are, oh no guys like you, McCain, Bush and Cheney would never leave your safe Green Zone now would you...Instead of name calling address the issues, and use your so called "academic education," instead of your military foul mouthed brain washed vocabulary. In other words, address the issues idiot, but I guess that's asking the impossible for you right wingers now isn't it??!!

I agree said:

I agree, Mr. Military guy you represent all that is wrong and evil with this great country, you say you are educated, but yet you act in opposite. You do not respond to your outraguous accusations of chemical weopons still in Iraq. You know that is a lie, just like our leaders in Washington. You can't stand the truth, instead you and the rest of you right wing-fundamentalists lash out with the same old phrases, "dope smoking, tree hugging, etc, etc" whenever the loyal opposition challanges you. This is your superior education? Straight from Professor Rush Limbaugh huh! C'mon now, wake up!
Respond to the issues instead of name calling, but like the prior writer said, it must be difficult when all the facts are against you.

Democrat said:

Hey Private PFC Idiot (and not retired)! You amaze us with your brilliant dodging of the facts by simple name calling. You are all those things you name and more! You are the filthy 20% that still supports the criminals in the White House, and just because you went to the Middle East and so did your pathetic family, gives you no superior intellect, in fact, it shows that it destroyed whatever brain cells you may have had. You are just like the rest of the lowly minority republicans, you are scared to death to debate the facts, but more than happy to name call. You are a degenerative traiter who should be hanged with the rest of you liars!
