Blood Transfusion Battle

A Skagit County judge ruled Wednesday that a 14-year-old boy with leukemia who refused potentially life-saving blood transfusions cannot be forced to get them.

Dennis Lindberg died last night at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle.
Dennis was of the Jehovah’s Witness faith. The faith prohibits transfusions of whole blood.

Lindberg’s legal guardians could have intervened, but they are also Jehovah...

A letter from the Seattle School District is raising some eyebrows about Thanksgiving and how it should be handled in the classroom.

The letter tells school district staff that the holiday is seen by many native americans as a -- quote "time of mourning."

Gabriel Custody Battle

2 Year-old Gabriel Allred was born in Oregon and has lived with his foster parents since he was 4 months-old. The Foster parents want to adopt him.

But two state placement boards have ruled the boy should be sent to Mexico to live with his paternal grandmother. The boy has never met the family in Mexico and speaks no Spanish.

A federal judge has suspended Washington state's requirement that pharmacists sell "morning-after" birth control pills, a victory for druggists who claim their moral objections to the drug are being bulldozed by the government.

A Washington man recently starting building a pirate ship treehouse in his front yard. But with construction nearly finished, Mountlake Terrace city officials stepped in and put the brakes on the pirate project. Officials say it violates city regulations. The man says his neighbors support the project.
