Do you think Larry Craig should serve out his term in the U.S. Senate?

It is up to the Senate and not voters whether to retain Larry Craig. He has lost all Republican seniority rights, so if he stays it does no more for Idaho than a new Senator. Idaho needs to get used to having less clout in the Senate. But, if I were him, I would stay in the Senate until his term ends just to increase retirement pay.

Cheryl Metcalf said:

Isn't it really up to those who elected him to show a vote of no confidence? I don't see his constituents throwing stones.

Traci Lee said:

Finish his term. I think the only thing Senator Craig was guilty of is being stupid. He could have gone into any gay bar, and there would be no crime. The media attention on this story just takes away from important news, and it is likely the reason why high quality people don't want to enter into politics.

Dan Bennett, Olympia WA.
The Senator is gay or bisexual and it seems somehow to be related to the fact that he is now a convicted criminal. His sexual orientation is only relevant because he expresses denial about it, is a hypocrite and a resignation-flip-flopper.
Liberals are ok with him being gay or bisexual, but not being a hypocrite or a criminal. Conservatives are ok with him being a hypocrite or a criminal but not being gay or bisexual.
What a crazy mixed up world we live in.

I think Sen. Craig doesn't realize he could make more money by publishing a guide for gay and bisexual males on how to make men's room contact. I was totally unaware that there were secret hand signs and probably a secret hand shake(?) as well. I'd buy a copy just to know what to avoid.

Idahoan said:

Hell, I didnt know there was hand signs.. I have put my hand under stalls before (to ask for t.p.) didnt know there was a sign to being gay, thanks for letting the public know what to avoid.

Sen. Craig has been an Awesome Senator for idaho, I am from idaho,I didnt know there was a law against a senator being gay,(I dont think he is)but even if he is gay I think it should be up to the people of idaho to decide his fate, he should run his term out and then run again, if the people love him he will be re-elected and if not then we will have a new senator. LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE.

He should serve out his term as U.S. Senate.
What does the bathroom incident have to do with his job? Is it going to make him a bad senator? Look at his track history not a silly bathroom acusation!

starla said:

Finish it Sen. Craig. You were only trying to screw around with a couple of people. Pres. Bush screws around with the whole country and he gets to stay in office. Stay there and do the good job you have been doing. You are only guilty of a stupid act in your own right, and you were not trying to upset the system as a whole like others we know........

senators use their judgements and common sense to rule our lives. what he does in in his personnal life is no concern to me. it is obvious that he has trouble in making sound and commited judgemets in his position.

Garbo said:

do you remember the impeachment process over a blow job? GAWD....republicans are hateful evil people!

P. Stultz said:

The 'bathroom incident' does not change the fact that Sen. Craig is a dedicated and effective legislator who has served his constituents long and well. It certainly does not justify ending his career in government. Talk about Big Brother watching! What's next, feds under our beds?

Kim said:

Senator Craig would not have been arrested if he was just tapping his foot or reaching his hand under the stall for toilet paper. He was obviously asking for sex with a man (since it happened in a men's bathroom). I am not against people who are gay. Everyone has the right to choose his/her sexual preference. Mr. Craig lied to his wife, his children and the residents of the State of Idaho. I don't want a liar representing me and my state. Show some integrity, Mr. Craig and step down from office. You don't even show remorse or embarrassment! You made your bed. Now lie in it. Pun intended.

It is about time again for our public officials to mean what they say. If someone is going to say that they will resign than they should be willing to stand behind and back up their statements. If we are too unwilling to take the time to make it happen or too cowardly to stand up for any ideals about truth and honesty than we have failed ourselves, our children and our political system. Unfortuantly this is no surprise to me since we are unwilling to hold any politicians accountable for the promises that they make to us. It is not his fault that we do not care enough about truth to call him on his lies, it is ours, and he is just the recipient of our unwillingness to take the time to make our political process work for us!

bill lewis said:

Larry Craig has a history going back to his days at the U of I in Moscow, which reflect his sexual preferences. Regardless of this evidence he continues to deny the truth. Personally, I could care less about his sexual preferences, but it is difficult for me to give him credibility in any area since he is willing to lie about these preferences. On top of that, Craig is a hypocrite for his votes against gays and lesbians.

keith said:

Guilty- Not Guilty, at first he said he would resign, now he says he won't. he says he will not seek re-election, that we will have to wait and see. Make up your mind and at least quit lying to your family and constituents.
guilty-not guilty, resigning-not resigning, not seeking re-election-????? For those of us who are voters in Idaho, who care less about sexual preference, he sure leaves plenty else to query.

J Smith said:

Craig is a hypocrite and I love it when those god fearing right wing Taliban style Christian republicans get caught. Having said that I think his constituents should decide. Besides it makes great news 

Lynn said:

Hypocrite! I could give a fig if the Senator is gay, bi, or straight, or what he does with his sexuality in private. What irks me is his votes against gay rights when he most likely *is* gay/bi himself, AND his repeated lying about stepping down. Have some cuyjones, and do what you SAY: step down. Either that, or quit paying lip service to your 'high ground' morals, then doing as you please. Lord, this man is an idiot, too - asking for sex in a public place. Might as well tack a sign to yourself, esp. when you're a public figure. In the end, it comes down to MEAN WHAT YOU SAY, and DO AS YOU SAY. Shame on you, Craig.

erv said:

what do you expect he is a republican. from now on no matter what he does people will be thinking bathroom stall. it seems to me he is thinking more about himself than the people he represents.

Centrist said:

How can the reublicans maintain their "wide stance" on morality with one hand and Larry Craig's bathroom escapades in the other?

Hypoocrites!

Cay said:

Not only should he not resign, but he should seek re-election. I say keep him around as a shining example of what fundamentalist Republicans are all about.

Dennis said:

Being gay, bi or being straight are not choices. The only choice to be made is if you are going to live your life openly and honestly as a gay, bi or straight individual.

dale martin said:

why do i believe sen. craig?
because it is the police officers job to "get the bad guy", and the police officer is going to say what he wants so that no matter who you are he can make you believe that you are guilty, even when you are not. i have known too many people that were 100% not guilty and later proved so but the cop kept saying i know you are guilty and you know you are guilty and this goes on for sometimes hours until you are worn down and will say what the cop wants just so you can get to have some rest. and i am sure that is what happened here and the cop knows he is not guilty but will never say so because he would lose to many cases.

John said:

I don't understand what the big deal is. Even if he is guilty of the crime, who cares? I could understand if he were tying to pick up children, but that is not what he is accused of. He was looking for sex, who has the right to judge him just because he likes men? I didn't know being homosexual was a crime. What is the difference between picking someone up at the bar or restroom. He was not having sex in the restroom. Could it be he uses a wide stance, with a nervous twitch while sitting on a toilet? I myself did not know that tapping your foot in a restroom was against the law. I've done it to camouflage a different noise I was about to make. Next time I will not camouflage. You will hear nature in all its beauty. For all you people that want to rush to judge him, you would have been perfect jurors for the Salem witch trials.

. I love what you wrote. Good Job!
. I don't care if Craig stays on in the senate, I just hope he gets voted out of there at the end of his term. I think he will do more damage if he's there, Damage to the conservatives that is. Let him stay!
