Al Gore says he's hoping his new Nobel Peace Prize will "elevate global consciousness" about the challenges of global warming. They were honored for spreading awareness about man-made climate change, and for laying the foundations for dealing with that change. Do you think Al Gore deserved the Nobel Peace Prize? 13 CommentsLeave a comment |
You've got to be kidding me. It just goes to show that the award is not unbiased. This guy says that people in Africa should be kept in the poverty level so that they can't do harm to the environment if they should get technologically advanced. The same guy who started this whole global warming religion has a house that most people would say is extravagant and burns more fuel than any ten homes put together. The Nobel Peace Prize just took a step down in credibility.
NO. But then the Nobel Peace Prize has had questionable recipients lately. I think that
award does not deserve one's respect when persons like Arafat are included.
To my thinking, Mr. Gore does not exhibit the nobility and integrity or indeed the implements for peace that one should expect. The global warming mantra doesn't to my mind necessarily connect to a peaceful world. Peace is achieved when our combative human natures are transformed into a love which includes our neighbors. Conciliatory behavior then has a chance.

a friend pointed out something interesting about this.
bush gets elected and starts a war.
gore loses and wins a peace prize.
Absolutely not at all. The peace prize should be awarded to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change only for their many years of work illustrating the issue of global warmin. Al Gore has shown that he is not a true steward of the environment and is unable to practice what he preaches with his outright carbon footprint hypocrisy (like private jet travel for instance). While it is true that his movie has helped to highlight and politicize the current problems that we face on this planet and the effects of global warming which is good, I strongly feel that Mr. Gore has not done enough to foster peace and humanity and should be pulled as a recipient.
My guess is when we are finally rid of Bush and he enters private life.. he won't be doing anything that helps anyone but his own selfish ass..
In fact when the Bushworld bubble finally bursts he will probably have a nervous breakdown!
The Nobel Peace Prize is just one facet of the many different Nobel Prizes given out. They all have their own criteria. Paul Crutzen, Mario Molina, and F. Sherwood Rowland split the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for showing a mechanism of atmospheric ozone depletion. Al Gore didn't invent global warming and he never claimed that he did. The individuals that win the Peace prize usually have caused the population to change the way they think about and view the world. I don't know the specific criteria but I can tell you that the agency that determines the Prize are extremely thorough and wanted the 2007 Peace prize to be involved with a "Green" planet. Al Gore may live in an extravagant mansion and may not practice what he preaches but he has become a name synonymous with global warming. I believe that is the true reason he has won the Prize.
Yes, Gore is doing great things.....unfortunatly I just heard the Supreme Court has decided to award the Noble Peace Prize to George W. Bush and we can thank them for the mess George W has gotten American into....
Good one, Denice! Your comments feed into mine... Al Gore receiving the Nobel Peace Prize (one of many categories, as Webdog pointed out) is a "heck" of a lot better than that disgusting Senator Craig being inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame (shouldn't that be "the Hall of Infamy" instead?)--I'm a native Idahonian who is appalled over this. More power to Mr. Gore and his efforts...we need more of our politicians to exhibit Al Gore's genuine concern for our world and its environment. Can anyone say that about any of the current (and past) Bush administration? So, Congratulations to Mr. Gore...we need more like you in this country!
Hey nevertooamazed, I am from Idaho also. Are you a Vandal? In regards to Larry Craig, I watched him on TV last night and I think he is bi - but so what, he is human.
I would much rather see the polie chasing terrorists than closet gays in the bathroom...
Wow - a loser getting noticed and awarded for the work done by others. It must be nice to know that all you have to do is compile other peoples work and make a movie off of it and .... ta da
you are a winner now - or a democrat
They should have given it to Joseph Goebbels. The truth from both people is about equal.
But why has he never been recognized for inventing the Internet? This is the real travesty.
I think Michael Moore should have got this one, hands down.
