Well..let's see...45 billion dollars profit in 5 years.
1) The American People for not really being angry about this and just taking it in stride. Buy that bigger car, cuase you'll never take that Hummer off the road.
2)The government for regulating EVERYTHING but the oil and gas companies. Sure get a tax break for buying bigger, not smaller.
3)Our elected leaders for being in the pockets of the oil and gas companies.
(should'nt they have to wear logo patches of who supports them like NASCAR drivers??)
4)The media for not blowing this entire thing wide open.
5)Actually thinking that after the embargo in the 70's something would change.

And I blame all the hippies that want cleaner gas to save another tree here in the northwest.

It seems to me like the only place in the entire nation with the highest gas prices is Washington. Whos to blame? Well lets see, since this state is so concerned about its own enviromental laws they decide to put the highest state tax on fuel in the country. George Bush's fault? Your crazy if you believe that. Try and make a decision that benefits someone other than yourself and then maybe just maybe people here can get something done for a change... Bottom line... Its the hippies fault

On this one the blame goes so far, it would be difficult to blame just one or two people or entities. Here in the United States of America, we have the lowest gasoline prices in the world. In Europe, they were paying about $5 (U.S.) per liter of gasoline over a decade ago. For our gasoline prices, I think we would have to blame our government, BOTH Federal and State. The big oil companies would have to shoulder their part of the blame for profiteering. Why? Because the price of gasoline goes up instantly whenever anything happens. If there is a riot in Bangladesh--gas prices go up. If there is an earthquake in the Sudan--gas prices go up. If there is a hurricane anywhere in the United States--gas prices go up. Long before it could possibly affect the price of crude oil, much less the finished product already in tanks. I do know this, when George Bush III took office, gasoline was at 99.9 cents per gallon. Now it is at $3.49.9 per gallon. And the person who doesn't drive is correct ALL prices go up when gasoline prices go up. Now, if it were anyone in office except Bush and his friends, the profiteering by big oil would have been stopped long ago. The profits these companies are making off the backs of the citizens are obscene.
As for me, I'm retired on a fixed income. These prices kill me. I drive a little 4 cylinder car and only go out when I have to. I don't blame the hippies, I blame the Republicans for letting our President do whatever he wants without any checks or balances. Wake up. Years ago we had independent gas stations who participated in price wars. They did this because they were able to purchase gas on the open market. Now there are a few big oil companies that control distribution and the gas stations. They tell the gas stations "owners" what they must buy for and charge. We also have a lot of people that will not give up their SUV and Hummers. Thost vehicles should carry stickers that say "I support terrorism." I pay higher insurance rates for driving a small car because if I get hit buy and SUV or Hummer they consider it a total loss to my car - how fair is that? In Washington we have gridlocked traffic because of over development and poor planning by local officials. We sit on freeways burning up gas by the thousands of gallons because we are too stupid to live and work in the same communities. BTW .. most likely it is a combination of the government and the oil companies that are largely to blame here. We cannot possibly let the 50, 60 and 70 Miles Per Gallon diesels of that the rest of the world ALREADY HAS over here. They would reduce the need for half of our oil sales overnight.
And it would do the same with all the Priuses. ALL of the US manufacturers already make these
high efficiency cars .. must more efficient then the Prius or many other hybrids without that technology however they don't import them. Imagine a Diesel Jaguar S Type wagon with
twin turbos on a V6 Diesel that does 140 MPH ad 60 to the gallon. That car exists in the rest of the world and it is made by Ford. Or a Diesel
540 BMW, or a Diesel Camry, or Ford Explorer, all with O2 sensors and clean emissions and quiet engine. Diesels have evolved America is not allowed to know it. It was hilarious to read that the new Smart car was hailed for its superior milage and such .. HAVE YOU ACTUALLY READ THE FINE PRINT? That car is over a decade old .. the Smart is cute .. but its an ancient design already.

The government is to blame. Our gov't is so weighed down with lobbyists, greatly influencing not only the choices that are made in congress, but who are making the choices. The money it takes to become a congressperson is out of control; politicians have to take the money of big business in order to finance their campaigns, and to stay in business as a politician. Hence the sway of the oil industry and the automobile industry. They will be around until they find something else that will be more profitable to them.
Obviously, the U.S. has an extreme dependence on foreign oil. And, it seems that we are enemies with the countries who put out the most barrels per day. Even the ones that we are friends with, like Saudi Arabia, we have highly flammable issues with. Here is how I relate it: The U.S. is Rev. Falwell if he was addicted to Hustler porn (oil). His public face may say that he hates the stuff, and that he doesn't really need it, but the reality is that he craves the stuff and can't shake it. He needs it. The U.S. needs foreign oil we will always be users until we find something else to be addicted to.

SUV drivers support tettorisim? so if you get better gas mileage even tho you buy your gas at the same place you dont support terrorisim? but someone who buys a vehicle to haul the kids groceries and the dog etc they support terrorisim because they need the space for thier families and by having a 4 wheel drive that makes them an even bigger terrorist? i dont know what part of the northwest you live in but it snows here.
if you are going to spend your hard earned money on a vehicle doesnt it make sense to buy one to fit your needs? there ainte nuthin like getting stuck in a traffic jam because of some schmuck with one wheel spinning in the snow.
if mileage is a measure of how big of a terrorist you are take a look at cruise ships. they get about 1 foot per gallon.

The biggest thing I see is people are complaining, but they're not willing to get off their ass and do something about it. If you're going to buy a car, buy one that runs an alternative fuel if at all possible to start. I for one have switched to propane for my vehicle, and yes while it still comes from a refinery, at least more than 80-85% is produced right here in the US as a result of natural gas processing. It's a start and for $1.79/gal it was worth it. Basically there are 4 major players here running things- Government, oil companies, insurance companies, and the auto companies. If you think about it they all go hand-in-hand. Also I believe the government has put a huge damper on the development of technology on alternatives such as producing and burning hydrogen from water efficiently. The technology has been around for quite a few years but has not really been looked at or further developed. Why? Well it could be used to fuel your car, heat your house, cooking and lots of uses including generating power- and all this you could harness from water. Think about what that would mean for the oil companies profits? The potential is there, it's just if there are people that have done it, and i'm sure there is, they're not telling because they are afraid.

We have to keep in mind that while the Prius has decent milage .. it is a driving chemical waste dump with all its toxic fluids on board. It costs more energy to produce and to safely dismantle then it saves us energy ... a very hypocritical vehicle.
If it were to do me any good to be mad at someone, I would direct my adverse sentiments towards the oil companies, who once again this year, are realizing record profits. The fatcats don't care about us at all. Let's hear it for capitalism...make as much money as you can at someone else's expense!

twin turbos on a V6 Diesel that does 140 MPH ad 60 to the gallon.
