Are high gas prices affecting your Memorial Day plans?
How much are you paying for gas at your local gas station?

I think part of the problem concerning high gas prices is that so many feel such discouragement and depression concerning inflation (and we are in it up to our ears), that people have become apathetic when it comes to protesting these terrible prices. The oil companies are profitting in the billions of dollars and the poor are getting to the point where they really are choosing between gas and food. It is a horrifying situation. No gas to get to work, no food on the table. A circle of discouragement for so many. Employers will fire those who don't show up for work. But, who can afford the gas? What is worse, who cares? What a criminal situation that is going on and the big wigs could care less and will.

go to gasbuddy and look up the price of gas when bush got into office, it has doubled in that time. about a year ago when these record profits of tens of billions being reported by the oil companies came out, congress went "thats not right!" "we need to tax that!" how else are they going to pay for this war? dont expect anything to change any time soon. record profits will continue the taxes will continue to roll in and the consumers will continue to get screwed.

The solution to the problem of high gas prices is 100% in the hands of the consumers. You would have to be asleep since the 1940s or in complete denial your entire adult life not to realize that gas prices, and all prices for that matter, rise. The same goes for increased traffic congestion. Complaining to the government or whining about evil corporations will never change anything.
We all need to reduce our demand for gas. Drive less and/or use less gas. Every person that drives can reduce their gas consumption. Look around you and look at your fuel use habits. The only way anything will change is for all of us who use gas to change it. My gas budget is less than it was five years ago. What have I done? I traded in my V8 Ford for a economy car, I bike to work once or twice a week, and I have worked on combining errands and reducing unnecessary car trips. Look at your habits. What can you do? It's completely up to you!

I had planned to go camping only two hours away from where I live and just cannot afford to do so now. It is terrible that I make more than minimum wage but yet I am worried that I won't be able to afford food or gas to get to work. I have no choice but to cut back on how much I drive around. I don't go anywhere anymore, work and to the store that's it. I am still spending far too much in gas, and I work a mere twenty miles away. I traded in my V-8 for an economy car. And I am still paying out the rear! I would bike if I could, but not everyone has that ability. There is a point where it stops being the consumers choice. We still have to work. And what's worse, the government does not care about any of it. The war and feeding their pockets are all that matters to them, and for what? Hundreds of thousands have died and there is still no light at the end of the tunnel. The billions of dollars that has just been approved to continue funding the war came from many Americans who do NOT support this war, it's beyond not being fair. Not only is the senate not listening to the soldiers who want to come home, they are turning a deaf ear to those of us middle americans who are crying out. It's time to make some changes.

also for the fact we cut our vacation by 4 days
abd just stayed in our home town didn't do much else with gas prices being like they are people are not going to travel as much or go shopping as much which will put any stores sales down

Well, the gas prices arent changing our Memorial Day plans, but thats just because we were planning on staying home, maybe renting some movies and having a barbeque. Gas prices are outrageous at 3.75+ some days around Lake Stevens and Granite Falls. If weather were nicer, and I had the cash, I'd be tempted to get a scooter. It would work for quick light trips to the store or such, but doesnt work so well with 2 kids or real store runs.

This looks like another case of "the haves" and the "have nots". Only when the working class can not afford to show up for work will the more affluent realize that the economy is going the wrong way.
Sure, Europeans have been paying more for gas for years. But their mass transit systems are much better than we're used to.
Come on big oil companies, give us a break before you really put a tail-spin on the economy

However I believe that gas prices will rise to around $7.00 per gallon in 2010.If that happens few people will be able to commute to work in their automobiles, trucks,SUV's etc.Pleasure driving would cease to exist except for the affluent classes.Such a problem as this could cause a massive economic depression.I'm so worried that I grow my own crops in my backyard right now (at least I will eat and survive). One answer would be to switch to electric vehicles. Most of the inexpensive electric cars(under $15,000) are only good for short trips(under 35 miles) at low speeds(25 m.p.h.) in the city but the cost to drive this far is only around $.50.There are even electric trucks too. There are electric cars that go long distances(several hundred miles) at fast speeds(up to 160 m.p.h.) but these are too expensive(over $100,000).Here is a link to one electric car check out the video. http://www.zenncars.com/

If gasoline gets too expensive than these vehicles will become very practical and the vehicles using internal combustion engines will be abandoned like dinosaurs. The roads will be cleared of gas powered cars.
It's better to pay $.50 per 35 miles than $3.50 per 35 miles right now.

People, if you really want to see what the BIG oil companies think about our spending habits, here is a true test(unlike the yearly mass email that says to boycott buying gas on a specific day because it will cost the oil companies Billions). Buy your gas from Safeway. No it is not the best gas in the world(sorry to those who choose to purchase cars that require the top end Supreme gasoline), and no it is not that much cheaper than Shell, 76, etc, etc. But here's the thing. On average, they charge about 3 cents per gallon more than everyone else. However, if you have a Safeway card, you get 3 cents off anyway, so it is the same thing as the station next door.
Here's the catch, if you spend over $50 at Safeway, you get 10 cents off per gallon(if you collect enough of the 10 cents off notations on your card, you get 17 cents off per Gallon!!!). Now, I would be willing to bet that there are many people who look around for a gas station that will save you 3-4 cents per gallon. Safeway also has a pharmacy. Those purchases count towards your gas credit as well. Currently, with all the food that we buy and perscriptions that we need(especially during allergy season), we haven't had less than 10 cents off in three months.
Would you rather pay $3.34 per gallon(in downtown Renton) or $3.24? Yes it still is way too high, but face it, that is not going to change anytime soon. Between our two cars, we can fill a total of 38 gallons of gas. Do the math. Is it much? Not really. Does it add up over the long run? Absolutely.
I am not advocating Safeway in any way. However, as a one stop shop to save ME the most money, its a no-brainer. How do you think the 76 Station across the street would react if they really ended up losing most of their business over 10 cents per gallon? We should stop complaining and stop trying to figure out a way to "stick it to Big Oil" and pay attention to how you can save the most money for yourself. If everyone figures out how to save for themselves, others(including the big gas staions) will take notice. Personally, if I'm saving $3.80 everytime I have to fill up both cars, it will save my family around $200 per year. Is it much? Not really. But I love having an extra $200 to spend on a family vacation.

Has the price of gas changed my Memorial Day plans? No, because of the price of gas, we didn't make any. My husband and I are both disabled veterans, and you can bet that our compensation has never taken into consideration the rising prices. This month we have put $60 into our car and used that gas mainly for doctor's appointments, going to the grocery store and the library. We managed to use such little gas by combining trips and using the stores closest to home. But, the price of gas has changed our vacation plans. We were planning to go to the coast this year, but with the price of gas, we decided not to. We will vacation within an hour of home and have cut the time to 3 days instead of a week.
If gasoline goes up much further, I don't know what I'm going to do. Due to my disability, I cannot walk to the bus stop, so public transportation is out of the question. Cabin fever is starting to set in because we stay at home so much due to the cost of gasoline. Something should be done, but I am quite certain that nothing will be done until we have a new president. How nice for Bush that he and his friends will be billionaires when he leaves office. How sad that the high cost of everything will break the average American long before things change.

Getting down to the nitty gritty about the gas problem is this: The oil companies and the Government need to get their heads out of their areses and realize that their negative, selfish actions are going to have some seriously negative repercussions. The American economy, along with every other economy that is directly affected by ours, will soon go into a rapid tail spin that will be extreemly difficult to pull out of if changes for the better are not made soon.
