Should Mexican truck drivers have the unlimited access to U.S. highways that Canadian truckers now have?

There are distinct differences between Canadian's and Mexican's.
Here we go................How often are we as a nation having to create policies to keep Canadian's from coming into America by the droves? HOw many Canadian's have been caught, sneaking Canadian's into our country, risking many of the refugee's lives to do so? How often do we hear about the Canadian's harvesting billions of dollars worth of drugs and sneaking them into America? How many Canadians that live in America find themselves featured on our news broadcasts, not positively, mind you, but none the less in our news broadcasts, and furthermore, how many of the Canadians featured in our news broadcasts are gang members? And then how about the population? Do we see, Canadians in America, crushing our economy by coming here, getting on welfare, and not stopping there but, then having many more than one or two children? And what abut the truckers delivering products into America. How many instances have we heard of problems letting these drivers drive on our highways? Bottom line people, we do not want or need more problems in America, as it is, since we are a melting pot for the world we have had to adjust to many cultures here, some good, some not so good. STOP NOW WHILE THERE IS A FUTURE FOR AMERICA. Let's continue to keep somewhat of a semblace of sanity here, can't we? Further more, I will never vote to make Spanish our countries language, you know why? I'll tell you why. I have had the great fortune to live in two distinctly different countries and cultures. While I was there, I lived by their rules, spoke their language and ate their food. I bacame a part of their culture. So, I just can't imagine why anyone would want to come to a foreign country and not become part of it!!! We must continue to keep that damned border closed, keep monitoring the traffic and keep control of the trade here in America.
WE as a country have made a terrible mistake by voting in a dry alcoholic that has an ego bigger than many I've EVER seen. He is single handedly destroying our country's reputation by strong arming and constantly keeping our country in a state of confusion, we might as well just roll over and take it up the ass!!! He has repeatedly lied to America with HIS agenda, not the American people's agenda. Shame on him, I WILL not ever again support him or his efforts. Furthermore, I am a patriot through and through, I believe in America and what we represent to the world, and people, we need to pray real hard that the next president has the fortitude and tenacity to turn our country back into a position of power and respect.
Bush wants the Mexican's votes. He probably is behind Bank of America, advertising that they will allow illegal aliens to have bank accounts in America!!! And how about the discrimination against non Mexiacan illegal aliens? When their Visas are up (expiring) they are deported. Why aren't the Mexicans treated the same? Lets keep our local economies strong by keeping the money here, in America!!!
To be fair, yes, Mexico isn't the only country that deports money abroad. So where do we go from here? Let's not forget that we have to support our local unions, and not give those jobs to the Mexican govt.
Lastly, if we allow the Mexican truckers to come into America, drive on our highways, where will that lead us to? There is a silent war here. It has been stated by Mexicans that they will slowly take this country over without firing one single shot! Some of you whoi are too young might not have been around when it was fashioned as a joke. But mind you, IT IS NO JOKE!! It's happening. So, bottom line, do you want our great country to fold? Go ahead, allow them to travel our highways so they can bring in more illegal aliens, make it easier gor the tons and tons of drugs to continue to come in, and then, last but not least, take more jobs away from us, our children, grandchildren, etc.............

Canada does not allow unlimited access to their roadways by our drivers. Thus I believe that the following should be policy. All foreign drivers, and trucks, must complete a 8 hour rest at the port of entry prior to continuing. During that period the trucks can be safety checked. All drivers must have a certified insurance policy with a U.S. attachment on it. All regulations shall be applied both ways. Third nation products will be subject to tarriffs that would have applied had the product been landed in a U.S. port.

As a truck driver with 34 years experience, some of the worst truckers on the roads come from canada. They are rude, they tail gate, drive in the carpool lanes and speed. I have personally witnessed them throwing their urine filled milk jugs out of their windows while driving in excess of 65-70 mph.
I have also driven my car thousands of miles within the borders of Mexico, and have seen the same and worse, much worse from Mexican truckers. Their trucks are in poorer condition than their Canadian counterparts, and their driving abilities are far less than canadian truckers.
The security of this great country is already bad enough, and we are already giving to many of our jobs to other countries, and the time to stop it is now. The only thing we should be exporting from the u.s is GEORGE W....

ABSOLUTELY NOT!! I wholeheartedly agree with the response of Margot and several others. I am a retired truck driver (long haul). I’ve driven truck in every (contiguous) state except ME and VT. I’ve been in Laredo, TX where Mexican trucks/truckers make deliveries to US warehouses for US trucks to pick up. Most of these drivers can’t speak or read English. They are very rude drivers, ignoring the rules of the road and driving as though in a Demolition Derby (e.g. Ten US and Canadian trucks in a RIGHT TURN ONLY lane and Mexican trucks pull up in the lane to the LEFT of them and proceed to TURN RIGHT). Their trucks are in worse condition than ANY trucks in America. Canadian truck drivers are generally polite and follow US rules and regulations. The Canadian gov’t has stricter rules and guidelines than the US DOT. Even so, Canada is welcoming and friendly to US truckers (yes, I’ve had the pleasure of driving truck in Canada on several occasions).
Then there’s the issue of LOG BOOKS. How many highway patrolmen/DOT officials, etc. are fluent enough in basic Spanish to be able to communicate with Mexican truck drivers? Don’t even get me started on how US and Canadian truckers are governed by the US DOT. I guarantee you that it won’t be the same for Mexican trucks/truckers.
The only reason Bush wants Mexicans over here is so when the power goes out on his oil wells, they can pump the oil out for him BY HAND!

Of course not! Yes, I am of Mexican origin, but
I feel as if i am more American than such. But getting back to the subject, I really don't think that Mexican truck drivers should have the unlimited access to U.S. highways that Canadian truck drivers have. This, to me, is an outrage. Just as "The Great One" posted, "How many Canadian truckers has the U.S. caught sneaking Canadians to the U.S. and so risking refugees' lives?" Also, how is it possible that we want to allow this and then have to pay as citizens for the illegals stay in our beautiful country making it a drug haven for our future generations? Why would anyone want to support these kind of people whom come here to the U.S. and thrive like leeches off us U.S. citizens' tax money through the welfare system. It's frustrating to think that I know people from Mexico whom passed the border with no hassel and on top of that plan to have their children here in the U.S. so they automatically become citizens and so qualify to get fed by WIC, DSHS coupons, food stamps and other welfare programs. these children soon become parasites of the U.S. system, because they learn to live off the system, off the U.S. citizens'tax money.
It's so unfare for us citizens that these illegal aliens are getting past the border through truckers(whom also come to drop drug and make the black market thrive) and get so many more free benefits just because they are here to produce more children. Illegals are not stupid, they know this, and that is why they keep on having more children; to get a bigger check from the government. Our tax money is being wasted to maintain another country's people. It is not being utilized for the tax payers' benefits, whom have a harder time getting the benefits most illegals have, because we tax payers make more money, we can supposedly afford everything and so don't deserve the extra help that comes from our tax money, that's supposedly not fair to the illegals.
Yes, now that I'm riled up, I do have a problem with Mexican truckers having the same access to U.S. highways that Canadian truckers have now. Why wouldn't I? My parents and I have had to pay for all the crap they have brought to the U.S., including their lazy rabbit wives and supposedly "citizen" children, and on top of that for all the inconvenience they have brought to the healthcare system. We are tax payers, why the hell would I think that this is O.K., since I am paying for a giant wall across the border to prevent illegals from using up my country's money and it is still of no use and will never be, because of the stupid laws our law makers are passing for people who don't belong here legally or illegaly. What use is my money being put to in this border-wall if unlimited access to U.S. highways is given to parasital Mexican truck drivers? What use is anything here in the U.S. if anybody is given the right to do anything? Yes, it's a free country, I know, but of what use is it now if it is of no use for the true American people?
So in short, NO! is my answer.

Is the government high ?? this is a lawless country - ripe with drug traffic and corrupt law and political officials now they want to let trucks/trucker thru here...Gee, I wander what they will try and sneak thru here for a few extra bucks. What are they going to do if they catch a trucker shipping something illegal (drug/person) in their truck, send them across the border. We see how well that works when the Border Patrol catches someone... they usually beat the bus back across back into america. Why do we kiss Mexico's butt? They are invading our country, milking the poop out of our health care and social services, and shipping millions of dollars each year back to Mexico. 1) Where do most Americans buy their cars from?
2) Where are most of the toys we buy for our children made?
3a) How many "Americans" are lining up to pick fresh produce to send to the stores?
3b) How many "American" companies are willing to pay these workers enough money to live on (meaning live how "Americans" feel we are entitled to live)?
4) If Canada's border security was lenient enough that us Americans could go to Canada, work for money, collect food stamps, get free healthcare, reproduce so that our children would be Canadian citizens, and basically pay no taxes how many "Americans" would jump at the chance?
The problem is not with Mexicans. Not with Canadians. Not with Iraqi terrorists. No, the problem is with US (as in you, me, your friends, families, coworkers and any other American of voting age). The reason that American companies produce their wares elsewhere is not because it can be produced cheaper, it is because WE will BUY it cheaper. If a company can produce something at a cheaper cost, sell it at a cheaper price and still make a bigger PROFIT because WE consume more than we could ever need, they are going to do it(big shock, I know).
As long as we continue to purchase goods and services from companies that go outside of the United States to make a better profit, WE ARE THE PROBLEM. As long as we continue to vote into office those people who are simply in it for the Corporate dollar, WE ARE THE PROBLEM.
If this truely is a Democracy and each of our votes has meaning, then the problem is with the people who write, make and enforce the policies that allow this to go on. And who puts those people into power........ that's right, US!
Please don't be ignorant and predjudiced against the Mexican and Canadian PEOPLE. They are the same as you and me, trying to do the best they can to provide for thier families. If you were in their shoes, you would probably risk your lives to get your family into a country that would allow for you to provide for them too.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Not only do we need to lock down our borders, but we need to quit being the bleeding heart for the rest of the world and start taking care of OUR OWN! The amount of money wasted daily would create jobs, educate the young, and properly take care of the elderly. I wont even but mention the homeless. BUSH should be doing more to help, assist and aid AMERICANS than sending them to their deaths.
Absolutely not. It has been said on TV that the Mexican government does not even have a computer list of drivers, to check on certification, if such a thing is needed, or accidents. We want to add this to our congested highways? NO NO NO. Americans will die on the highway.
HECK NO! They cant read, write or speak the language and their rigs are piles of junk.
If we dont get our lazy, obese, fat butts out of our SUV's and our heads out of the clouds we will be so ripe to be taken over we wont know what hit us! Americans have turned into a bunch of fat, lazy glutoneaus pigs who want to sit on their butts for a job, then sit in a restaurant (on a chair because we dont fit in a booth!) then sit on the couch at home. Its time to wake up draw the lines take a stand and DO something to save America for AMERICANS!
No way
Thay don't have the same standerd we do or have to do plus thay could smuggel more illagel drugs faster than thay are now
Canada does not allow unlimited access to their roadways by our drivers. Third nation products will be subject to tarriffs that would have applied had the product been landed in a U.S. port.
I think we shold allow Mexican's to drive on our U.S. Highways. We allow the Canadian's to drive so why not Mexican's. Canadian's are just as bad as the Mexican's when it comes to sneaking their own kind into America. The only difference, the media always puts the attention on Mexico.
No unlimeted access ! As a nation America is being exploited as it is . Mexico and the Southern countries don't allow the same considerations for North American citizens . Why should we give them more than they already have ?
NO NO NO, HELL NO!!
We are not against the mexican people, they make wonderful Americans, it's their government. NO THE TRUCKS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO COME ONTO OUR ROADS. The trucks are not up to American safety standards and you know some will try to smuggle illegials in. After what the Mexican government did to get our TWO legal Mexican American BOARDER PATROL Convicted, I SAY boycot the MEXICAN Government.
No, It is to easy for them to bring illegals into the US as if we didn't too many already and no way to get rid of them
In my opine it would be #3 on my list of 100, the worst things this administration has done to this country!
No, and Canadian shipments/trucks need to be inspected more closely. We need to start here at fighting drugs and other illegal activities. Make all Mexican drivers/trucks pass strict AMERICAN standards.
if their trucks can pass our federal and state inspection YES we should be allowed into their country as well.
Let's thank the liberal left wingers and tree huggers. Thanks for trying to give America away
Margot Hall, your a biggot. And I don't know where you get your weed, but most of America gets it from CANADA. I also didn't hear much about explosives being snuck into the USA through San Ysedro. And yes, we all know those damned chicanos are all gangsters, but chicanos are AMERICAN, NOT MEXICAN. And as far as MEXICANS taking over America, I promise that the only people afraid of that are WHITE PEOPLE WHO FEAR ANYONE BUT WHITES HAVING ANY LEVAL OF CONTROLL. And it's not Mexicans taking over, but Latinos. Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, South Americans, you know, Beaners. Come on Margot, say it. Beaner. You know you want to.
By the way, I am chicano, was born in Chicago, am a dis-abled combat Vet, and love America more than anything besides God and my family. But if Canada has these freedoms, so should Mexico.
No way I'm a truck driver, and I've been down there on the border towns of the US dealing with the border brothers. There trucks don't met the DOT safety standards as US trucks, they also burn dirty fuel.Trust me you don't want them in the US. In Mexico they don't use log book's telling you it would be a big mistake safety alone is going to cause several accidents. Besides all that they caht drive to save there life. I've seen it first hand It's scary.
The drug cartels must be dancing with glee. And an added benefit - you can stuff more illegal border crossers into an 18 wheeler than into the wheel wells of a van. The madness continues.
..................NOOOOOOOOO........................and the reason is that mexico has a bit of a problem taking care of it's drug cartels...mexico,columbia,and all thoes southern countrys.......at least canada has some governing power....where as mexico has some one who is El presidente so they have some one to shoot at.....a moving target if you will.....but the drug cartels are the real power south of the border....so if it is allowed...we will be doing buisness with the drug dealers who are using these trucks to haul there shizz up here unabated.....
I am a roadworker in the Pacific Northwest, and
the amount of truckers I see out of British Columbia is alarming.
First and foremost, what comes to mind is NATIONAL SECURITY!
I think our borders need to be tightened down, and further think a CDL (commercial license) should only be issued to a US CITIZEN. Commercial
Motor Vehicles should be regulated and operated
by US Citizens.
The other issue is our economy; what's wrong with
those shipping containers being picked up and delivered by US TRUCKERS????
Absolutley NOT!! I'm an OTR and have seen the conditions in which these drivers have. Poor maintenance or none ie. brakes, lubrication, off duty time and health standards testing. I'm not against the people, I'm against letting the AMERICAN safety standards (FMCSA)drop to allow cheap freight for big corporate america. Every truck entering should be INSPECTED for safety compliance (vehicle & Driver). NO LOG BOOK? automatic O/S for 34 reset!!!
my answer would have to be NO. I've been driving a truck for 8 years and two and a half of those years was long haul. I've been down in Laredo,TX, and seen how they drive, if we let them have unlimeted access in the US. we won't have any roads or families left.
If you were in their shoes, you would probably risk your lives to get your family into a country that would allow for you to provide for them too.
okay.......but that dosn't mean that I want truckers from mexico on our roads.....you make a valid point....i wish we had a crystal ball that told us who was a dillhole B-4 voting there butts in......I know of no ball...so alas we are forced to voice up when each individual problem arises...so now, like so many times before,if enough people complain......it worked with the sale of our shipping docks to arab nations....so indeed we may be the problem but lets not salt the wound...and by that i mean make it worse....
THE IDEA OF USING THE IMAGE OF MARTIN LUTHER KING ON THE OFFICIAL KING COUNTY LOGO IN ANY WAY IS W R O N G.HE WAS A GREAT MAN.HE HAS PLENTY OF RECOGNITION AROUND THE USA, AND NONE OF IT IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE EARLY DAYS OF SEATTLE AND KING COUNTY. DOES KING COUNTY HAVE AN IDENTITY CRISIS?WE WERE KING COUNTY LONG BEFORE MARTIN LUTHER KING WAS BORN.WE NEED NOT REDUCE HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO A MERE ACCESSORY. THE WHOLE IDEA SOUNDS LIKE A JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MODERN GOVERNMENT PROJECT IN WHICH THE STUDENTS ARE GIVEN THE TASK OF RE-NAMING THE COUNTY.
WOULD SOMEONE ON THE DESCISION MAKING COMMITEE PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE.WE ARE PROUD TO LIVE IN KING COUNTY AND WE DONT NEED YOU TO RIP-OFF MLK IN SOME P.R.SCHMOOZE.SHAME ON YOU . MARTIN LUTHER KING CANT FIX YOUR IDENITY CRISES .YOUR EFFORTS WOULD BE BETTER SPENT IN COMMUNICATING WITH THE PEOPLE OF KING COUNTY.IN 40 YEARS WILL WE CHANGE THE NAME TO GATES OR ALLEN OR NORDSTROM COUNTY?THINK ABOUT IT . IT ALREADY IS KING COUNTY
mexico has been a member of the WTO since 1995 so doesnt that pretty much give them free access? during the WTO demonstrations in seattle that was one of the issues, mexican drivers being younger thier load limits and safety. somehow the public only remembers a few idiots breaking some windows and burning some dumpsters and the whole message got lost what the demonstration was about in the first place.
tens of thousands took to the streets over issues like this and now here it is years later and all of the sudden its an issue?
if someday your job gets shipped over seas and you are left a little genetically engineerd food to chew on think about the thousdans of us that took the time to put a stop to it years ago. and where were you?
I have a solution to this entire Mexico issue. Lets send in our military, take over Mexico and then make them a state. That would solve everything. Then, the only southern border we would have to watch would be a narrow strip of Central America, the mexicans would not have to swim the river to get on welfare and to get free medical, perscriptions, education, food stamps and all of the other free stuff we give them and all of the jobs that have been sent to Mexico would magically be in America again. What do you think?
Hell no. And I agree, I hate the Canadian truck drivers -- they speed, as do the majority of Canadians on I-5 -- and are dangerous, and they should not be able to have so much access. I don't like Americans who speed either, but at least they are citizens, not "guests" acting ungraciously discourteous. But Mexican truck drivers with Mexican standards (seriously, do you think they would actually have to get on par with American standards, no!, it's all about cheap transportation) would be even worse, and eventually it will cost American truck driver jobs.
