Do you find "High Maintenance Bitch" to be an offensive name for a dog store? Should the owners of the store be forced to take down the sign?

If the store itself is classy and non derogatory, I see no issue with the name. It merely uses the word as it was intended. much more classy a use than the 'bimbo bitchin whatever' that the article also mentioned. I see no reason to make the sign be removed. Bitch isnt a vulgar or nasty word.

It sounds to me like a store dedicated to people that love their dog's. I'm sure someone will find it offensive. They need to get a better sense of humor. I agree, if the store atmosphere is respectable itself, then let the name stay for those that can see the humor and truth in it. I may end up shopping for my dog there.

I do NOT find the name to be offensive at all. We have many friends that are breeders and they all call thier female dogs bitches. It is the ture use of the word and should remain on the stores name.

When are the people of America going to stop looking for drama? Maybe if we all stopped trying to be so PC we’d be able to sit back and enjoy the humor and sincerity to be found in this stores name. I do not in any way shape or form find the name of this store offensive. My advice………CHILL OUT. There’s bigger things to worry about like the war in Iraq.

I have no problem with the store's use of the proper word for a female dog. Anyone offended by it can let their money talk: don't patronize the store.

Seeing as the store is merely using the word as it's real meaning intends, There's no need for offence to be taken, nor is there reason for the sign to be changed. As long as the context around any word such as this with a dual meaning is appropriate, so is the word in my opinion.

This just proves how stupid people are. Bitch is a female dog, plain and simple. This is political correctness run-a-muck.

It is extremly disapointing that our schools no longer teach the english language. Or possibly people no longer know how to read. Bull/cow, stallion/mare, man/woman, dog/bitch, come on use your head instead of your immagination. Get your mind uptown instead of over in the red light district, shame on you!

The word bitch is not offensive when used to decribe a female dog. But in the case of the store front, it has another meaning which certainly is offensive. I would be in favor of the store taking down the sign mainly because I'm tired of all the moral laxity in our communities.

I do not find the name offensive at all. The definition of bitch is "a female dog". The store pertains to dogs. People who find it offensive need to do their homework first.

10 out of 10 finding it not offensive ... seems like a clear case to me.

Does this merit a blog? The name is being used in its proper form. America uses its language in a very sloppy form. We coin names and uses of words on a regular basis. Proper use is protected and your article indicated that. Leave them alone.

I do not find the name offensive. Should the canine world change for a few fudde-duddies? I am tired of a very few telling me what is right or wrong. Shop somewhere else, if you do not like the name. I will shop there now.

I think that people are reading to much into the name of the business and taking it out of context. A female dog is known as a "bitch". Should men be upset about the fast food resturant "dicks"??

As long as the sign is not a huge one and is not blaring into everyone's eyes, there should be no reason for removal. I do not find that as offensive as some things I have heard and seen over the past 65 years.

Tina said:

This is not 1705, it's 2007. The meaning of the word has become dual in the english language as words often do throughout time. Most people do not
even know that female dogs were once called bitches.
So I would say removing it would seem sensible.

The name of the store merely reflects the politically correct name for a female canine, if anything the sign is educational to those who may not know the intended meaning of the term used.

I won't go in the store! I find it offensive and believe the shock value is the reason for the name in the first place.

Just like the phrase "Its 5 o'clock somewhere" it should also been known that "almost every word is offensive in some language". For those that find it offensive (first of all .. get a life):

Websters dictionary says the following:
Bitch: Pronunciation[bich]
–noun
1. a female dog.
2. a female of canines generally.

So we are calling it the "B" word on the tv news due to the ignorance of overly sensitive people. The dictionary refers to "Bitch" as a female dog. If that is all people have to worry about then the world is a wonderful place.

I'm openning a store called, "High Maintenance Pussy" for cats. Will this be a problem?

Not Offensive!!!! People need to get over themselves....

As mentioned by quite a few others - this is a store catering to dogs and a bitch is a female dog. Get over it. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.
