It doesn't matter who takes it, just seeing it this close makes me hopeful for the first time in a long time. I am so proud I voted today, and proud to be an American for the first time in a long time. Sad to think we have to become Democrats or Republicans to stop the madness. But tonight I am a Democrat, for the first time ever! Go America - you have redeemed my respect for this country! Here is to the future!!

This channel generally covers the news well but there's been no mention of the widespread voter fraud being perpetrated all over the country including robocalling which is sending people to the wrong polling places, fake ballots and Diebold voting machines historically shown to be fixed. In fact Diebold's CEO promised before the 2000 elections "We will ensure a win for Bush". This is corruption of our American system of representation. The only reason I can think that NWCN doesn't cover these issues is because they are being told they can't. Belo Corporation is a national corporation which owns NWCN so it's not too surprising they don't act with an independent spirit. Sound outrageous? Do some research. I don't care if Democrats or Republicans or Independants win it's about freedom and the American way which is being corrupted here. Be a good American and speak up. There's more to do than flag waving.

I think that calling this race with only 2% of the precincts in was too early. Take for example the Michael Steele (R) vs. Ben Cardin (D) senate race in Maryland. The exit polls showed Cardin in the lead and, therefore, Cardin was declared the winner, but now the numbers show Steele may in fact have a legitimate shot of winning. The Associated Press called Cantwell's victory at only 2% without knowing which precincts were reporting; they could have been heavily democratic precincts, but judging from other races, the exit polls are not to be entirely trusted.

To make another point, all of you who voted for Maria Cantwell, I am very dissappointed in you. Looking at her record, she hasn't done anything. If anything, she has become more indecisive as the election drew closer. The only reason she would potentially win is because she ran under the democrat title, not because of her views which have changed based on the democratic state and national opinions.

I would like to thank all of you for voting for the worse candidate. I am concerned for the country seeing that the democrats are beginning to take more power.

One party rule in DC comes to an end, and I could not be happier.

I don't believe the Democrats are much better than the Republicans, but at least the Democrat victory will limit the damage Bush will do to our country in the next two years.

Just remember when Jimmy Carter was elected. Interest rates went up and the economy went down. Be careful what you wish for. Hold onto your wallets because things are going to get much worse.

I thought we were lost but WE did it! There is hope for our country as it was founded to be. I have my American pride back again. Thank you to all who voted for a change and to those who watched over the polls. WE are taking back our country.

Assuming the Dems win both houses they won't be able to accomplish much until they show some spine (something we haven't seen post-9/11).

Well, my rose colored glasses no longer work. While I would like to believe that things will be different - reality is - they won't. The President won't have as much power as he did, but the Democrats won't work collectively with the Republicans either. We're (the USA) like the children of divorcing parents - and the politicians are (the attorneys). No one wins. Bottom line - everyone is out for themselves, so policitians say what they need to get themselves elected and will continue to say what they need to say to keep them in office - regardless of party affiliation. It's too bad that no one in government seems to understand what the word "truth" is and to realize that their job is for the good of ALL people - not just a select few.

bush is bound to fight them every inch of the way. he is the kind of guy who just keeps smashing forward without looking where he has been or the damage he has done. he isnt the kind of guy who will ever admit he is wrong.

he and mcgavick in thier campaign speeches talked about paying down the debt, there was no debt when bush got into office, there was actually a surplus. these republicans try to make you feel like they are doing a great job in paying off the debt they created.

the damage done by these people just isnt the thousands of our young dead soldiers and the tens of thousands of wounded but look at the global reputation this has given us.

I feel that, unfortunately, the citizens of this country do not realize just what they have done. I predict that within the next two years, we will be attacked by terrorist because the Democrats will weaken our national defences against terrorism. Only then will we all realize just what lunacy we have commited.

As much as I would love to see all my liberal neighbors rejoicing at tonites news, I am haunted by the fact that our enemies are lining up all over the world to take our freedoms away from us.

Now, the Repulicans will have a sure shot at the White House again in 2008!

what i find interesting is in the blog freedom of speech about the bus driver who got fired for giving bush the finger got 55 posts in the first 5 hours it was up.

in this blog during the same amount of time it got only 14.

the kerry blunder got 77 posts but the bus driver got nearly twice that.

It really does not matter which party controls congress for it's control rests with lobbyists and special interest groups. I have seen that world and it is on a different planet.

For the people who ride through life on the backs of the producers it's good news. For people that understand the threat to our very existence it's a dark day. This time just watching our wallets won't be nearly enough as democrats line up to encourage an enemy that wants to kill us. Your hands in other peoples pockets won't provide much protection. I don't care who is in the white house, but our country always needs a balance of power. Having one party run the country, especially such a totalitarian party as the Republicans are right now, is dangerous. Our constitution requires that balance of power, and I believe now we are heading back in that direction. Thanks, NWCN, for providing a place for me to speak my view.

gas prices have been in the $1.80 area in houston for the last couple months. speculation for some time now has been the oil companies have been lowering prices to make the republicans look good. if that the case it failed, either way now its over we will see if they start going back up. my guess is they will.

Bob Dylan said it best (in his new song - Thunder on the Mountain) 'shame on your greed, shame on your wicked schemes'. I don't know if he was talking about the Republicans in that song, but when I hear those lyrics its the Bush Administration and their supporters that come to mind for me.

I don't think much will happen because democrats would like to elect a president in two years and do not want to set up set any controversy that might influence people. For example, I do not think taxes will be raised unless or until a Democratic president is elected. Some popular program may be instituted (more money being spent "on the people"). The war? I don't know, everyone is caught in the middle right now.

I served my army time in the South Pacific during WW2. We had been attacked and were there to protect outselves against an enemy. This war in Iraq was started under false pretenses. We had not been attacked by that government. There were no weapons of mass destruction. We had no right to interfere in that government, even though it was corrupt. Why wasn't the real effort concentrated against the people who attacked us? Let's get out of Iraq and concentrate on the true enemy. With this new govenment, maybe we can do something positive and concentrate on something positive.

I was very much surpise to the amount turnout for the election-all the of flooding going on around the state.

That just shows how much the citizens where tired of the old party line running this country.

Its' about for some change-hope its not for the worse.

I can't believe all the one sided and biased comments on the air today. Is someone censoring the calls you allowed on the air? There was one exception - the fire fighter that was the only one that even sounded like he had any intelligence. What do the democrats want us to do - run with our tail between our legs and give up in defeat in Iraq? How would we look and what about OUR security? I only hope that our troups don't give up with all that's happening here in the states!

If this can truly be viewed as a blessing then it will only be because of the fear of reprisals from which the republicans have been free for too long. I think the GOP will think a little more before it acts. I think the blunders of this administration would never have happened were there more dissenting voices. It's hard to be truly brave and patriotic in a house full of "yes-men". At best, the balance has been restored. At worst, all the current political posturing for the next presidential election will leave us with a house stymied by a political agenda with no regard for The American Agenda. Finally, a jab to those blindly supporting this war on terror- remember 9/11? We know who masterminded that attack. We know he was in Afghanistan. He is still free. Iraq was the diversion. Were you fooled that easily?

I want to congratulate the DEMOCRATS who won as well as the Republicans who won. They all worked hard to be in it. I see the natural balance has shifted back just as it did the other way back in 94, when Newt worked so hard to get the message out. So I went to the Dems homepage and they say they are committed to keep our nation safe, strong economic growth, affordable health care health care, retirement security,honest government and civil rights. Now they sound good on paper but what is their plan? Increase the minumum wage and force small businesses to struggle and let people go. Retirement plans are already owned by individuals. Honest government. Both sides have cases of corruption. Some seem to make bigger waves. Civil rigths. That was fought 40 years ago, before I was born even. I don't know how Democrats get credit for it. Republicans actual was the party to fight for it back then. I'm trying to be a good sport. I'm glad the Democrats have something to be proud of and feel like they have a voice again. I just don't trust their rhetoric. I hope they prove me wrong because the stakes are way higher today with the threat of terrorism here at home.

We'll be back on track for a balanced budget, which means even more taxes (though I really do believe the smoke and mirror show of the Dems touting balanced budget was such).

Control of our lives in real terms is coming (less freedom in real choices regarding our lives, with the educated doing what is right and making decisions for those of us not educated or educated and too busy to be involved in running everyones life).

ALL for the sake of touting a withdrawal from wars and use of agriculture to grow our fuel? With land disappearing, even government taking land for a better use, what makes the democrats able to make more land thereby, more fuel, more food, more for housing and development?

What makes anyone think the dems will withdraw from the war? Did they do that in Vietnam? NO, under dems the war was escalated to it's highest level.

Gay marriage across the country maybe. Scandal free government, I don't think so, just remember the most recent dem administration/control (although they'll most likely run the woman dem who actually controlled the White House during the last Dem dynasty-and had a closet of her own-how soon we forget). Maybe another 9/11 by ignoring problems outside our borders, spending funds instead of preparing our military for social programs to enhance their control of our lives, buy our lands for preservation, doing everything for youth's sake? Oh, I forgot, and a balanced budget. Time will tell soon. I just wish the country did not have to suffer and pay for the NEW SHOW (which is a repeat of history-as it always is).

To the Republicans .. YOU LOST THE ELECTIONS .. get over it. The majority in this country voted and used the democratic right and wanted change. Now move on and stop whining like a little kid.

It was about time...I cannot believe all the comments that have been made to "hold on to your wallets", or "taxes will go up". What do you think the Republicans have been doing all this time??? for some time now the suspicion that the big oil companies have been lowering gas prices to bolster the opinions of thier republican buddies has been floating around.

so is it just a coincidence that last week the lowest gas prices i could find in houston on the web site gasbuddy.com was $1.78 and now a week later just after the elections the lowest i can find is $1.88.

it only makes sense they would go up no matter who won.

Judging by how close many of the races were and how the winning candidates ran with conservetive issues, I do not fear big changes. I was even happy to see Lieberman back in congress. So, things are not so bad. The republicans ran a weak campaign and can do much better if they stick by their conservative values and convictions. Although it isn't enough to just run with conservative values, but when elected they MUST stand by those values or America will fire them like this 2006 election.

This election is the first good news in a long time, the republican party and President Bush found a way to commandeer the nation by rallying conservative christians who have no business in politics. The American voters at last came to their senses and realized that the country was almost over the edge and hopefully by taking the power away from this administration for the next two years we all can recover.

Bush is a bonehead if he signs on to raise the minimum wage. The market can take care of itself. Companies will be forced to let people go and unemployment will go up.
