Who's to blame for the increasing level of violence against officials and referees, and how do you solve the problem?

The referees need to call a fair game in all sports. To many games are coming to the decision of the referees, to many games are being played by the officials there is holding on every play, don't call it because a team of your non-favor just got an 80 yard td.

The Parents are the problem. Out of control kids are allowed to get that way from hearing their parents attitudes and comments. Out of control parents should have their kids be banned from sports. Let's take control back and make sports just that - a GAME where everyone can play! Joe

It is simple situation, take the parents out of the games and the kids will enjoy themselves many times over again. I have officiated basketball for over 14 years the problems emit from parents personal attacks on the officials. We as a group work hard to do a good job but very few people recognize the difficulty and time spent to do a good job on the court. The officials have never caused a team to win or lose. If you believe otherwise than I suggest you grab a whistle and try to officiate.

This is all George Bush's fault!

Sports used to be a game for children and/or adults to get to know other people, have fun, while enjoying a little competition. Now, the entire premise of Sport has changed. The Philosophy of why Sports are played in the first place has turned to Greed, Violence and Aggressive Release. As a Martial Artist, I view American Sports as an extension of the Roman Gladiator Era where winning is the only reason for "sport". There is no respect in today’s Sports among participants and audience alike.

Neither the Parents or Children are at fault, I believe it's a deeper issue within the Construct of our Social belief system. The Corporate mentality has turned sport into a money-making enterprise, and thus "competition" carries other connotations besides friendly, respectful game play. There is no honor in today’s athletes. Million dollar salary's for playing a Sport is abhorring. I see no reason why a grown man hitting a ball, or running a ball over a line should be rewarded so. I believe such money should be paid to our best of Educators or to perfect our public schooling system. I laugh whenever the News shows so-called Athletes arguing with or fighting with one another. They remind me of young children that don't know the difference between play and fighting. Professional Athletes set the example and society follows, and that is pathetic.

To solve this problem starts with who is funding or paying these athletes so much money. Educating the public as to why these Traditions are seemingly so important to Civilization as a whole.
Do these activities serve a significant purpose to our modern civility in their current state ? Millions of dollars are spent for these activities however, global problems are exponentially growing all around us. Perhaps the violence we see in sports is merely the cathartic release of our individual sub-conscious helplessness in lieu of the world’s real problems. I think this to be the case. I watch how fans go berserk over grown men passing a ball around, lining up paying hundreds for a ticket to watch this childishness and then wonder why people around the world are impoverished, starving, terrorists, etc…. perhaps US citizens have grown so self indulged that we can no longer fathom the affect our presence has on our fellow citizens around the world. Our fat children over stuffing themselves, slaves to the Corporate advertisement of fast foods. Ha-ha… it’s pathetic.

Thank you,
Sxean

By not having any sports!

There is to many violent "contact" activity in the name of SPORT; for one, baseball wasn't soppose to be any contact, and yet there are brawls all the time -Hocky I can understand, even some times Football. However, all these sport are proffessionals.

But, as far a Kids Sport-it will always be spoiled by their most favorite fan- "THE PARENT".

So, what is one to do? Bar the parents at these kid sport activities or put up some kind of barrier between the game the stands [like the hockey].
