How should school districts handle security threats?

No matter what security methods are used (security cameras, metal detectors, security guards, etc.), the same methods should be used in EVERY school district... in EVERY school.
I am in favor of preventative methods that are designed to curb the cause of most of the school shootings... bullying. Video cameras being monitored on a continuous basis with cameras placed throughout the school (especially in those areas where bullying occurs most) would stem incidents; plus aggressive prosecution of those students that initiate the bullying.
Preventative measures would have cost considerably less than what we're faced with, today.

Preventative maintenance with security cameras is a very good option. Also the number of incidents are bound to increase in direct proportion to the increase in the number of students. I have also noticed that the number of incidents increase with the amount of publicity the media gives them. The perpetrators find out that they can get a lot of attention through the media so they seem to get increasingly braver. It seems to be a feather in their caps for their behavior to be reported over and over and over by the media. If the media doesn’t give them the notoriety they crave then it would seem they wouldn’t have a good reason to continue with their destructive behavior. Maybe the media would like to tone it down. I am not much impressed with media indoctrination anyway.

having just graduated high school three years ago, there are many things that i think you COULD do to help make the schools safer ie. camers and such. but our school never had these, we never had the funding for them and in my mind didnt really need them. with the show of force form the officers there was enough. even when we had threats and such the staff handled everything right and kept us safe. i think that they just need to keep doing what they are doing because in all reality they cant do anything more at this point. they cant stop everything bad from happening at their school. thats just life

I recognize the need for us to be informed of events such as School Violence and or threats.
These events should not get so much Television exposure. Too much glorification.
The way our schools are constructed lends to easy access. Open breezeways, no secured fencing, playgrounds exposed to the public.
School offices, where a visitor has to sign in is not stategically located, a visitor walks through the breezeways outside of the unsecured classrooms before they get to the Office. Basically anyone has clear and easy access.

As data shows from the recent FBI report on Violent crimes, "more guns, less crime".
The teachers' ought to be able to carry as long as they are licensed to do so. Even during the recent 'school shootings' could of been stopped if an educator was armed.
Having metal dectors inplace is only has good as its operators' are. Having a close campus might help a little as long as the entire compound is fenced off- gates are closed and locked as well.
